Does anybody know why they keep the cars for Giant Drop, and the cabin for Sky Trek up at the top of the towers when the park is closed. Especially duing the winter months when the park is closed for an extended time.
I think it's because when the cabin or cars are at the bottom of the tower, the cables are exposed, and harsh weather can do some damage to them. If they are halted at the top of the tower, the cables will be inside the towers. That's the only logical reason I can think of.
I think it's for both reasons even though the cable thing is probably the real reason.
"I've been staring at the world, waiting. All the trouble and all the pain we're facing. Too much light to be livin' in the dark. Why waste time? We only got one life. Together we can be the CHANGE. So go and let your heart burn bright"

That is usually when the park is opening the next day. During the winter months the cars are usually at the top of the tower unless they are doing something to it.
It is either to protect the cables or also the counterweights are heavier than the cars/cabins, so it puts alot less stress on the gearboxes/motors to keep the empty cars at the top.

Also, it helps to promote the park and ride as people are driving by and see the cabins up at the top of the towers. It makes the park look less dead than it really is. Plus the cable reason I think.
hahhha i hate giant drop with a passion! it just scares the crud out of me one of my friends told me today that there parents got stuck at the top and they didnt give them warning when they were going to drop them and it scared them so bad. i felt like i was seriously going to fly off, then again i felt the same with power tower at valleyfair.
^ Yea it is! Nothing can beat this ride out with its theming and effects and all that other good stuff. Even though Giant drop is higher, tot still beats it by a long shot.
It can break down at the top and it happened to my friends from high school. Like you said they got stuck at the very top and witout warning booooooommmm they drop. I would freak out cause you don't know whats going on, you would think the ride wont stop at the bottom.
yeah i'd freak i hate hights, i dont mind them on rollercoasters like bull or anything and i dont mind Sky Trek Tower but giant drop is a little to much for me i dont think i will ride it anymore. i dont mind the power tower that shoots you up its not as bad of a ride then just being at the top and not knowing when your going to drop.
no it dosent idk if its because its steel or bronze or w/e it is when i was at the bottom it looked like as it was lifting up the life would drop the cart filled with people............ but that may be just me because im not a big fan of the ride.
