CHANG WATCH: The Official Topic

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby rizash on February 11th, 2010, 8:25 pm
Darn, then my other idea wouldn't work either.... I would have loved to see chang stay a standup and see wolf go floorless. I like the layout of wolf and think it would rock floorless, but I was assuming that would reduce the head banging. Since you guys clearly know the park better than I do, where could you fit chang as is?

Wolf would suck as a floorless. There is not enough inversions. Thats what a floorless is ussually all about.
Top 5: 1) El Toro. 2) Maverick. 3) Millenium Force. 4) Diamondback. 5) X2.

Pictorium is safe for 2010. Unless they get rid of it afterwards and then start construction on Chang...seems like a lot of work in one off season.

Rcdb isn't gospel, and it says is being stored there. They know only what we know. Also have to wonder why there are so few photos... 150 foot high 4000 ft long b&m can't be put in a 2 car garage.

Rcdb gets their info the same way the general public does.

Please. Please. Please. Please. Please READ THE TOPIC. Don't just talk about whatever has already been answered, Chang is most likely at B&M to be refurbished into a floorless.

PLEASE READ.

^Or maybe you should learn to read that the floorless deal is nothing more then a rumor  If you are going to criticize, at least get your facts straight.

I have read the topic... Every post. But if it's getting rehabbed it would not need to go to b&m. It could have gone to a fabrication plant to be inspected, magnafluxed, media blasted and painted though. Hell I don't think b&m would need one single part even if they were completely re doing the layout, since they should still have the original plans. Also b&m is mostly a design company, I don't think they do as much in house production as people think.

I wasn't assuming anything about a floorless conversion, I was asking about it.... Why the heck do you guys need to bash me for asking a question and shining light on a weak source... I'm trying to help.

Sorry about all that, now... As for the parking lot overlap, wouldn't that cause a shortage of parking?

As for parking, they always have quite a few empty spaces on a full day, so they could generally fit those in, only the high parts of the ride will be in the lot, so they could technically keep a few spots.

They would never completely retrack Chang, NEVER. That is far to costly.

Ok, after checking some more images... I see what you're saying, we could get chang and only lose a few spots in the lot. Could be really cool, walk up and see superman on one side, bizarro or some other theme for the opposite side.

As for re tracking, I was just talking layout changes to make it more compact. Yes, it could cost a lot depending on how big the change is, but they will already spend millions on a refresh and re theme for chang. Again I was curious as to what has been done to other coasters to fit them into other parks.... I still am not sure it's coming here, but this is the only thing nobody seems to have talked about. I heard the later shockwave clones were improved over ours, so if there is a problem to fix or improvement that can be made to chang, why would they not if they're spending millions to bring it here.

Ahhhh....no.

Dwayne knows what he is doing and will NEVER put something up unless it is 100% confirmed. Also RCDB is the most important/trusted/viewed coaster site on the internet. He has more "hook ups" then you think. Way more then ACE, TPR, ect. But that is because he is not running a organization or business.

^To add to that, RCDB also puts rides as under construction when they move to a park. The SLC at Darien Lake was the same way for a period of time as well.

A local Screamscape reader did a little homework and came up with a graphic that shows off which property Six Flags owned and which was leased at the Kentucky Kingdom theme park. From the look of things, Six Flags owned the majority of the land that Chang was placed on, as well as the land under the nearby former Batman stunt show theater, T2 and Blizzard River. In two other small parcels, they also own the land under a few sections of Twisted Twins as well as the entire site of Mile High Falls. Here are a couple of links (1, 2) showing off the property lines owned by Six Flags, listed as KKI LLC.

It's worth noting that B&M is situated in a small office in an office complex in Switzerland. Clearmont Steel that fabricates for B&M in the US does not offer any sort of inspection or refurbishment services, never have, never will. While I have no specific info, though the process of deduction Chang currently resides in it's near entirety at a Six Flags park or property.

Well, I think Chang will appear quite a bit more in the next month or two, because they want to get everything they can out of Six Flags. They also make a good point, why are they paying property tax on something that they don't own?

Chang is all gone from Kentucky Kingdom. It has been since late November. Deconstruction took about 2 months. They must be hiding it good as they would not just send the staircase and one support here.

I know from renting it is part of the rent. It may be a case where because it was a government intimidate owning the land, they had to spell it out in the lessee in full detail so the money would actually go to the taxes.

I wasn't saying rcdb isn't trustworthy, just saying that they may just be storing it here if it is being refreshed/painted near gam. I'll get excited when newly painted pieces show up on site since it will end up where it shows up in new paint.

If six flags was paying property tax on the rides, they own them or get the money they paid in taxes back from the parks other owners. Because permanent rides increase land value, they are like a structure and charged as property tax. So if six flags was charged property tax on any rides, they likely have some form of domain/property rights to them, as taxes are a firm precedent that six flags owns these rides. Take into account that many were partly on their land, and they were maintained by six flags, and many rides will stay with six flags. Of course smaller portable rides might be seen as regular property, not tied to the land and sf might lose them

Why is it this way? As land improvements, the city county and state can charge sales tax on the purchase/install, then count it as property improvements so they can raise the land value and charge more property taxes. This helps six flags a lot!

So, I've been away for awhile and haven't paid much attention to the goings-on of GAm. Logged on today just to see if anything new was coming to the park this season, saw the Little Dipper news (fantastic acquisition), and then this.

Cannot say I was expecting something like this to surface.

It is good news for sure, I just hope it isn't just a rumor. Of course I'd still prefer a new coaster, but chang would be a nice replacement for vu. If we lose something to get chang, I'll be disappointed unless it means an additional coaster headed our way in the next five years.

Please. Please. Please. Please. Please realize that this is just a rumor and no one besides those who know at Six Flags know what's happening with Chang. I don't think you know more than I do where Change is. This will be an epic laugh if Chang ends up going somewhere else like SFOG.

Well, their current stand-up is about the same color, so dueling stand-ups it is.

I never said I expect/assume it is going to gam. It's good news that six flags has to spend less money to either give us chang, or give a coaster to another park (chang) and build one for us. It's good news that six flags has a used coaster to install somewhere.
