I have been lurking in on this thread and what I really have been puzzled about is the excitement about replacing a stand up coaster with another stand up coaster.
It seems to be common knowledge that stand up coasters are some of the least popular rides no matter what.
I understand "its a new ride and its better than nothing" sort of argument, but honestly I would much rather get some cool new flat, or wait an extra year to maybe knock down Iron Wolf or sell it and then open up some room and draw out some sort of new ride. A floorless coaster of sorts, maybe a Maverick Type ride.
I know the budget is probably going to be tight for the parks lifetime now, but clearly Buccaneer Battle was an unfortunate bust (considering water rides in the summer should and usually do have waits), BB never was busy and nobody seemed overly interested in it.
We have to think about the general public here and replacing a VERY unpopular ride with a bigger version of it won't necessarily have a great impact on the park. The GP just doesn't care for Stand Ups. Its either my balls hurt from the bottom restraint, or I am uncomfortable because they locked me in while i was squatting ect ect.
The other possibility of just painting IW and getting new trains would be great for US who love rides, but honestly do you think anyone would really care that much?
I guess in the end, whatever happens to IW will benefit us enthusiasts almost certainly. For the overall benefit of the park and the other millions that go through the turnstiles though, I think the effort for a brand new/original ride would have to be committed to.
It is the general belief here and elsewhere that Chang's trains will be used on Iron Wolf and that Chang if installed at SFGam will have Floorless trains or trains other then stand-up.
Another thing to remember:
Chang and IW run the same trains, each have 7 rows with 4 across, both of course had two trains each. Now if all these rumors are in fact true, and right now we dont know what is going on. Then Common sense would tell you this:
If in fact Chang's trains are at Great America, and thats a big if considering all we know at this point is that the trains where put on a flatbed headed somewhere. Anyway, If in fact Chang's trains are at SFGam, and the long standing believe has been that Chang where ever its installed will be added in 2011, then why would SF bring the trains to any park in 2009? if they wherent going to be used in 2010?
Seems to me the likely scenario is this: 1. Chang's trains are used on Iron Wolf for 2010 2. Chang is repainted and renamed and rethemed 3. Chang is installed with new trains (floorless/sit-down) in 2011
There is a lot of ifs there, but it seems like the most logical idea to me.
Once again you have to also remember that the Village of Gurnee needs to have a meeting prior to any installation over 125 feet. As Brian pointed out the one for October has already been canceled, this guarantees that if Chang was to be built at SFGam it wouldnt happen until 2011.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but IW's trains are made by Intamin right? Is it possible they will go out for a refurb next year, and come back in 2011 with a complete repaint of the ride as well?
Iron Wolf is an Intamin with some slight modifications, as Walter Bolliger & Claude Mabillard used to work for Intamin before they made their own company and they made the standup coasters. The early B&M standups are almost the same thing. The later B&M standups such as RRV and Chang are much better engineered though.
I'm usually not interested in ride re-locates, even if it could involve our home park, but there's a few scenarios that could happen which make it interesting to see what will happen.
Thank you Chitown, I just read your earlier post & you have the exact same idea that I was thinking. If it does make its way to the front of the park, I hope they give it some sort of patriotic themeing (Great American Scream Machine type) & not another super hero theme, we already have enough of those.

Maybe they just don't have anywhere else to put them? Maybe Great America has more storage space available than Kentucky Kingdom?

Yeah, a patriotic theme would be cool but having Superman on one side of the main gate and one of his enemies (Bizarro) on the other side would be a cool entrance piece of the park.
Plus they want to sell superhero merchandise.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.
I could see that happening. They could really bank on advertising with the whole Superman vs. Bizarro battle, if they do decide to send Chang to SFGAm, and retheme it to Bizarro.
poor wolfie rip ( hopewe get a neww bm wingrider for next year!11!
KissyLou wrote:Oh no, not a patriotic theme. There is already too much red, white, and blue going on. Afterall, Sky Trek was just repained with those colors.
If done right, it might actually turn out pretty nice. With sky treks new look, they could even turn that little area into a new themed section (Patriots plaza or something) Plus, anything patriotic always seems to sell, heck it did wonders for the American Eagle. I just really hope we don't see another super hero themed coaster, we already have too many of those.
Forget Bizzaro. He's a character that not many regular (non-comic book people, or people really into Superman) know. Pick someone like Lex Luthor, Doomsday, or Brainiac for a Superman villain. That would be cool to have one evil villian on one side, and Superman on the other. That's an awesome idea. It's better than Green Lantern. Bizzaro is so not popular enough that they didn't even put him on the signs for Superman in our line, but yet they duplicate roller coasters based on him (retheme)?
On top of it, they rethemed Superman ride to Bizzaro. That is another stupid Shapiro thing! Change what people consider to be the #1 coaster on the planet to another name. Oh, that doesn't confuse the general public at all. Where's Superman? Uh, it's not here no more. It's now Bizzaro. What the heck is Bizzaro? It's like choosing the mole guy for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. His name might be Groundcheck (through researching - I even forgot his name.)
"I've been staring at the world, waiting. All the trouble and all the pain we're facing. Too much light to be livin' in the dark. Why waste time? We only got one life. Together we can be the CHANGE. So go and let your heart burn bright"
Jcoaster's pic is much more realistic. I don't know how you would think that works tp. Pictorium isn't going anywhere, and it hovers over Viper's que, which would ruin the entrance and just look like total crap.
