Those are the track paths for the parade trollies. They Start in home town square, then go through carousel plaza, the orleans place, the end in mardi gras.

My guess is that people were running in front of it too much that it was difficult to operate.

They still use them to do parades occasionally.

They stopped using them due to the large masses of stupid people not getting out of the way. They still use them during the Jumpin' Jammin' Jubilee and Zombie Jamboree parades. The track around Hometown Square and around what is now Big Easy Balloons use to be complete circles. There used to be a section where it split in to 2 tracks in front of Rue Le Dodge so the 2 trolley's could pass each other.

The tracks were equipped with "spring switches" and in simple terms that mean when a trolley went through the switch, it spring back into its position, eliminating the need to throw a switch with a switch stand. It was pretty automatic and ingenius and allowed them to run a complete circuit with no interruption.

Those have all been eliminated, thus making a trolley system operation impossible.

The trolleys were manufactured by Custom Fabricators, who also made the Scenic Railroad equipment. Ther are patterned after the San Francisco "California" Line Cable Cars.
