Maintenance will NEVER talk to guests, as twixmix ealier said. The only words they'll usually say is, "Excuse me", "Step down onto the stool", or "Just give us a few minutes."
The crane is most likely there for repairs on the lift hill.
Rides can run under the weather.
And to all you people in this thread saying, "Prove it" well give us from proof that they are wrong for once.

Well, for the most part mantainence will NOT talk to you. But occasionally they are allowed to tell guests whats wrong with a ride. And some are more than willing to tell you if they won't be fired over it. But usually they aren't allowed (nor are any other park employees) to tell you what is wrong with a ride. Unless it will be down for a long period of time, and it wasn't a dangerous malfunction, like Demon's axel breaking and the train getting stuck in a loop(but we knew that anyway, it was ALL over the news). Then again there are some maintenance guys who don't care if they are allowed to talk to you or not. They'll tell you anyway. I knew a couple of them, in fact my friend who worked at Splashwater Falls married one. And he never gave a crap about the rules he thought were dumb, and he still works there, I saw him the other night.
So maybe he did talk to a maintenace guy who did tell him. If we weren't there we can't say otherwise.
Welcome to ShockWave please pull your harness down as far as it will go. While riding ShockWave please keep your hands and feet inside the car, and your head against the headrest, please hold on to all loose articles, especially hats and glasses. Enjoy your ride!
Straight copy and paste from an E-mail sent to me by my friend, who is an operator at Batman you can choose to believe them or not.
"Batman's lift motor broke the 2nd to last weekend of the season and that's why it wasn't open. I guess they tried to fix it but it was still taking like 2 minutes to get up the lift. But Batman is not being taken down. The crane was there because they use it to take the trains down at the end of teh season. And now you do have to go through kiddies training before you can get trained at your home unit. "
There you have it guys, straight from a Batman operators mouth. The trains of Batman are taken down at the end of the year, and that is what the crane is there for. And yes you do have to train for kiddies now, but it was not the case when I worked there. As I said, I worked there when I was in high school, and that was 8 years ago.
Now we can all stop the speculation of why it was closed last weekend, and what the crane is there for. Now we can just look forward to April and the coming of the 2006 season.

Sorry to stop the happiness short, but this is a PM I got from one of my friends that knows what he is talking about (ride operator at the park):
"Tell those dumba**es in the batman for[u]m Batman's trains do not come off the track, there is no need to, they are in a heated storage building where they have room to do whatever they need to do rehab wise!"
Also, think about this: "The crane was near batman for a lift issue. If the crane was there to take off the trains it wouldn't have showed up to that location until the park had been closed for the season. That puts that at rest!"
"On to the next subject..... Yes I do agree with the shockwave girl that the steel does expand and contrast but not enough to make a difference. There is no more slop in the wheel gauge or clearance when it is 90 or 30 degrees out. So I have to take a dump on that theory. Now that this has been laid to rest you kids have a nice offseason!!!"
Honestly, I have no idea what the crane is for. When I was in the park Friday, Oct. 21, we came to Batman while it was closed and decided to wait it out, since V2 was getting awful crowded from the Batman crowd. After waiting about 10-15 minutes, we were told everyone in line would ride, but they were closing the ride after that, so we never got to ride. Like I said before, it's a crane, who cares? I know I don't.
Maybe they were just more strict about running coasters in the cold when Time Warner was in control. Because my training on Shockwave was delayed because we could not run the coaster when it was below 30 degrees. We also couldn't send a train with only one person in the last occupied seat either, and that changed too. So it may have just been a Time Warner rule.
But the e-mail I posted here was from a ride operator too. And a Batman operator at that. So I guess unless someone here has a friend from maintenance the world may never know.

why?
http://themeparkcritic.com/scripts/profile/ViewProfile.asp?ViewID=2909 A furious storm once roared `cross the sea, catching ships in its path, helpless to flee. Instead of a certain and watery doom, the winds swept them here to Typhoon Lagoon!
If someone fell out of the train in any other seat with people behind them, the rest of the train could tell the operator that someone was missing..
But if you are by yourself and fall out...no one would have ever known that you were gone if there wasn't someone else in the back with you.

It had nothing to do with Arrow Dynamics......that was the rule on EVERY ride in the park. Every coaster had that rule, and anyother ride where you (the operators) could not see the riders at all times.

So they are saying that you can fall out of the coaster?

Answer that as you wish

I wonder if they have that rule for Deja Vu too?
Top 5 wood-5-Goliath 4-Ravine Flyer II 3-Phoenix 2-Voyage 1-El Toro Top 5 Steel- 5-Velocicoaster 4- Maverick 3- Fury 325 2-Steel Vengeance 1-X2 Coaster Count: 444
The rule does not exist anymore. Not since Premier Parks bought SF. Remember when there used to be a sign in the line for the last seat of rollercoasters that said "There must be 2 riders to ride in the back seat"? Deja Vu wasn't even built yet at that time.
And sure theoretically you can fall out of rollercoaster....I've never seen it happen...but in theory it's possible, if you don't fit in your restraint correctly or if your restraint comes loose. Obviously it's not that big a possibility since the rule is no longer existant.
