Gurnee is one of those cities where if you take away one or two things, nothing will happen. There are 2 worthless cities within 30 miles of me. One thing sets them apart. Football. Green Bay has the Packers. Oshkosh to the south has nothing. The only thing that makes these cities different from each other is the Packers. Remove the Packers, and Green Bay becomes a larger Oshkosh. A boring industrial city with nothing worth seeing. Gurnee is the same thing, take away Gurnee Mills and Great America, and you have your standard Illinois, Wisconsin, or Iowa farming community. How boring...I'm just glad that that vote passed 30 years ago. If it didn't, I probably would have only been on Pepsi Ripsaw at the Mall of America! Never would have had any reason to convince my parent to go to Big Chief, Busch Gardens Tampa, Sea World, Cedar Point, or SFWoA.
Just so you know Travis, Marriott had their eyes set on some other locations in the Chicago area if the Gurnee site failed. If I can find a link to that story, I will post it.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.
Do you know if they were north or south of Chicago? If they were south, I probably hardly ever would go there, because it would mean we would have to fight 2 bad-traffic cities to get there. It absolutly sucks having to go through Milwaukee at rush hour, with it's perpetual road construction.
