Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

So what did everyone think of the employees this year? They had to deal with some weird stuff with the extremely hot summer (drought), new water park, and everything else they usually have to deal with. How do you think they handled it?

I only went one day, but they seemed a little slow with getting trains out of the station.

It depends who the crew is. Some are better than others.

Also, they have to wait until the previous train reaches a certain part of the ride. (corkscrews on Iron Wolf, for example)

Yea I know that. The next train would always be behind us waiting to unload.

Hrmm...yeah, some crews are slow. Unfortunately, some guests are slow, too.

I think some of the crews seemed more exhuberent this year, like the ones that said skits for the rides. I think other than the food stand employees that everyone also seemed a little bit more friendly, some a little bit more efficient.
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter :(

in my opinion efficiency is more important than friendliness. But that's just me. :)

^It is to a certain extent. When it is crowded, like some of these fright fest weekends, efficiency is everything. However, for the most part, if the staff is not friendly, the GP won't come back.

Right, I see what you're saying. Of course, friendliness is very important. I meant more that spieling for more than 10 seconds at a flat to be friendlier just decreases efficiency. If you can get 20 cycles per hour on a flat, (3 minute cycles), and lose 15 seconds from extra speiling every 3 minutes, that's 5 minutes spent spieling per hour, about 1.5 ride cycles. Take a flat like East River Crawler, and you could have moved through an extra 75 people that hour. (I understand that in reality 3 minute cycles would be found on flats like Jester's Wild Ride, not East River Crawler. This example just showed potential more than anything.)

I can say as a former ride operator that I can tell the rules have relaxed since Premier Parks took over. None of the crews have the same "hustle" that we were required to have. They walk slowly and are ALWAYS leaning against the wall/railings. I think that I would rather work for Premier Parks than Time Warner......

But all in all, most of them were very friendly.

I second the nomination of Brant for employee of the year....only complaint I have is that if he had gotten off the phone and sent my train earlier for RB on closing night....I could have gotten around for another ride!

Twix, you said "some guests are slow", and I totally agree with you! Half the problem is that if peolpe don't know what to do on a ride, ops should have a quick, efficient way of explaning it to them, or helping them. That way, it doesn't hold everyone else up.

I was next to ride Demon this year and the other train stacked because some teenager that looked completely stoned and fumbled around in a confused way between rows couldn't decided if he wanted to ride. The man in the back shouted out "C'mon, sit down! My 5 year old is on this!" He mumbled out a slurred no when the attendant asked if he was riding or not. So he asked him to step back into the gates and he just walked back and forth along the platform staring at the ground looking for the exit (I presume) and one of the guests finally just pulled him into a chute so they could close the gates and send the train. :lol:

So we have heard about rides employees, but what about attractions (those at the stuff that costs extra) and games? How do you think they did?

I thought the ride-ops did a excellant job this year!!! I thought that Brad showed alot of hustle on the rides he worked this year and i dont know his name but there was a lifeguard that filled in on Viper once the waterpark closed with a british sounding accent who also hustled and did a very good job and was better than most ride ops that were on the ride this year.
The only crew that i thought wasnt as good was viper, but i thought the employee's did a very good job,escepcially since the park seemed/was alot busier this year. The park seemed cleaner this year and a BIG improvement was letting you go to rides on RB's side of the park when HH was open, it was much more comfortable than waiting in the mass of humanity for the rope drop run.
The one negative i would give would be that someone/anyone on the RB crew should have seen what looked liked vomit on the wall under the station as you exited the ride and cleaned it up. It was there the lasy day of the year and i think i first noticed it in august.

that's just disgusting......

anyways, i think the employees did pretty good this year. I have no complaints.

I second the notion.

Brant was awesome. I was at the front of the line for RB one morning at 10 and the ride was closed and brant was at the front of the line telling every one that the ride was closed. So after the first 30 mins we just start making up reasons why the ride was closed and telling people. He was going along with it. We talked to him for 1.5 hours and he was just awesome.

Then for the worst employee... Mack form SWT. He accused me of rideing RB twice and made a huge scene out of it. I thought he was going to take a swing at me. Its OK we got free drinks after complaining at Guest Relations. :wink:

I thought that the lifeguards at Hurricane Harbor were good, but there was not enough of them. Like i said in another topic, i saw a kid fall down and start crying in Skull Island and no one came to help him. I ended up having to carry him to his mom. Despite the shortage of them, the lifeguards were good and alert.

As far as the upcharge rides, the Daredevil Dive crew didn't seem as friendly as the others. I asked the guy that was putting on my vest where i should put my wallet and phone. He said up in the box, but the crew in the box kinda yelled at me for still having them. Otherwise, Turbo Bungy's crew was fun. They even messed with the cords so i could get some double flips in.

the crew in the box would not have yelled at you for still haveing your stuff unless they had already told you where to set it down and you had not done so. And my guess is that they did not yell at you because the dive crew is probably the most laid back crew in the park and it takes a pretty annoying guest to get to them. Guests that are really annoying usually are then subject to the crew trying to scare them a great deal.
