Why? Oh, there was already a short discussion about how dangerous it would be to have people running around inside a water park, whether there is or is not water inside the pools during Fright Fest.

Iron Wolf-first roller coaster designed and built by newly formed B&M
Raging Bull-world's first hyper-twister roller coaster
Shockwave-opened as world's tallest rollercoaster
Shockwaves defunct.

Wrong.

Not all of it has been sold. They still own a small amount of it.

Looking at twixmix0303's list kinda gets me thinking that SFGAm may be one of the most underappreciated parks out there. I happen to think it's great (could be better, but what couldn't be), but for all it has going and has brought in the past probably not appreciated enough nationally, in my opinion.

Yeah, but SFGAm can't keep up with the coaster race anymore. There isn't enough land to build more without taking anything out, and the Village of Gurnee restricts the height of any rides going in. They are not allowed to build anything taller than STT and anytime they propose a coaster higher than 150 ft, they have to fight to get it up. I really wish we could compete with Cedar Fair, Paramount, and other SF parks for bragging rights, but at this time we can't compete with height or most rides/coasters because what little land SF has left across the freeway they can't use as an expansion to the park. The only thing we can get bragging rights to now is the first of a certain type of coaster, we just can't compete with height and amount of coasters anymore. It's sad really, kind of like the end of an era.

Height means nothing to me.

Though Dragster appealed to me, it wasn't as good as I though it would be. Millenium Force, since it coast so much, there was so little that could be put into it.

Alton Towers dosen't have anything over the tree line, and their coasters are some if not the best in the world.

The fact that some of you feel that we can't be big and bad without the height and speed really dissapoints me.

There are actually plenty of areas that could fit a coaster, just by looking at google earth i got a few ideas. You can easily put a floorless around and over Roaring Rapids and by just removing one of the log flumes, you can intertwine a coaster in there. Also, as long as most of the coaster is elevated, you can build one that basically outlines Picnic Grove. The ideas are unlimited if an imaginative mind is put into play. Now, lets try and get back on topic, because i am interested in what everyone else has to say.

In addition to underated coasters, what are some of the underrated rides, in your opinion?

I would have to say that Trailblazer and Sky Trek Tower are two of my favorite rides that barely get any attention. What are your thoughts?

I'll probably get some response back if CP fanboys read this, but I've felt for a long time that CP is overrated. I'll give them that they have height with three of their coasters, but what else do they have? Considering they continue to get Golden Ticket awards year after year for best park it seems like they shoud be able to absolutely excel in at least one area. What do they have: the best staff?, the best shows?, the best rides?, the most rides?, the tallest rides?, the fastest rides?, the best dark rides?, the best water rides?, the best scenery?, the best theming?, the cleanest park? Of course, one could say (and lots do with lots of overrated things) they they are the best at al of that, but are they really? Where's any objective proof or even acceptance by the vast marjority of those who go by more than what so and so told them. in my opinion, the biggest thing that CP has going for them is that they have over the years put together a great PR job, so perhaps that's what SFGAm should put their money to? NOT. I'd rather have a park that has true quality then to have one that's overrated, besides the underrated, high quality parks nearly always have shorter lines :D

The reason why Cedar Point seems so popular is actually simple -- they always build the tallest and fastest whatever, and by using 'tallest and fastest _____ on the planet!' they get a lot of attention. Every coaster that wasn't a kiddie coaster that has been added since 1990 was some sort of record breaker. A review:

Magnum - Tallest and fastest
Mean Streak - Tallest and fastest wooden coaster
Raptor - Tallest and fastest invert
Mantis - Tallest and fastest stand up
Millenium Force - Tallest and fastest
Wicked Twister - Tallest and fastest impulse
Dragster - Tallest and fastest

The media hears about these rides and decides to cover it. I remember watching a report from Superman on media day where the reporter noted that Superman went about 1/3rd the speed of Dragster, which would be opening soon at Cedar Point. That's advertising you can't get elsewhere -- and people who like height and speed head to Cedar Point because of it, and Cedar Point delivers.

It's a simple equation really, and it works really well for Cedar Point. Are they overrated? Not if you're into height or speed. And since that's the crowds they cater to, the Golden Ticket surveys (who mostly involve people who love height and speed) constantly vote them the highest every year.

What don't you see? This was my way of getting people to think of areas that could fit a custom coaster rather than on arguing about taking out the Whizzer and other rides. I was saying that if you use creativity, a coaster can fit just about anywhere. For example, the track design of Cornball Express is built over their kiddy section, this was my suggestion for building one over Roaring Rapids and Picnic Grove. What else didn't you understand?

I dont know where picnic grove is. My idea was expanding out into the parking lot behind suf and building a new coaster or theme area there and then they would expand there parking lot into that neighborhood.

Picnic Grove is the area where Necropolis is held every year (east of Mardi Gras).

That's a crazy idea. I have a young stud I know who lives in that neighborhood. And that would worsen the parking issue; I don't know where the buses and RVs will go.

No thanks.
R.I.P. Splashwater Falls and Space Shuttle America. Deja Vu, enjoy Idaho.

Taking more parking space up would just be a bad idea. I dont see how they do it now with the large part that HH took up.

I think msoeagle meant we'd then also have to expand the parking lot as such:

Expand the parking lot. I really dont know how much room is around sfga, but its a possibility. By the way twixmix, if you were trying to post a pic, its not working.

Now I see what your saying. It could work, but theres houses there. I dont think the people living there would appreciate having to move becuase of a parking lot.

Oh but if you did that you could advertise for having "Parking lot trolley: the Ride!" the longest ride in the park because it has to go four miles away to get to the edge of the parking lot

Really guys I have enough trouble trying to find my car in the overflow lot.
