Giant drop & Sky Trek tower

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

yeah i was watching some of the cars stop like 10 feet from the ground and im like whoa that dosent seem right. the one at Valleyfair slows down like 20 feet then goes a little faster to the ground

ToT in disney stops like 5 feet from the ground, but we all know that they have the safest rides around. I may give GD a try come spring, but Im not sure yet. Ill have to see how "safe" it looks. :)

Giant Drop uses the same system of braking as Intamin coasters. The ride is safe. Why would they operate a ride that isn't safe?

true. i kinda think i was just saying some of that beacuse im not a big fan of the ride and i think i was just thinking some of that stuff to get my friends to not make me go on it

It is to protect the cables that the cars are kept at the top.

Basically, that's right. And as for it stopping people low, yes it does. That's why a lot of enthusiasts think it is one of the best drop towers there are. Where it starts stopping people about 1/4th of the way down, others start as high as about 1/2. You don't really see or feel it kick in until probably the final 30 or so feet on Giant Drop.
