Memories At Great America

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

What is everyones favorite memory at Great America?

What about your least favorite?

My favorite was proboly when I was about four or five when I went there with my family before my parents got a divorace and I was the baby of the family. We stayed at this really cheap hotel and went to Gurnee Mills for the first time. My favorite ride was American Eagle. Those were the good old days. I also remember being so excited to see Shockwave because I knew we were almost to the park.

My least favorite was last year in July when I went to the park with my church. I was really depressed because my family was supposed to move to Florida and I would have to leave my friends, my dad and sister, and my favorite place in the world Six Flags Great America.

My favorite was probably just last weekend on Sunday. My sister in law, brother and both nephew joined us for that trip and we had a blast.

My worst was when I was about 7 years old and walking through the parking lot I bumped my ear into a side mirror on a car and ripped my ear ring out. It hurt like heck I tell ya! To this day my piercing still looks ripped and it always reminds me of that "fateful day"

My favorite was when I went with my friend from school and she took me on all these rides I would have never gone on like raging bull and demon.

Best day was openeing day in 76. After that, it has been every visit I have had at Great America.

Worst day was when I was 9, and the family was about have way through the day at the park. I felt gas building up, and after awhile I had to let it rip. Well, problem was, that it was not gas that came out. Seems I had eaten some bad food the night before which had gave me the runs. Yes, I S*** my pants. With no clean underwear to be found, my mother made me stuff some toilet paper in the backside of my pants so the s*** would not smear worse. Needless to say it was a looooong drive home.

my greatest memory at Six Flags would have to be when I first rode Raging Bull, it was so funny. We were going up the hill and I looked down I was like "I'm gonna die", after we did the little dip and we went flying down the straight hill I grabbed onto the handle and closed my eyes and started crying, my friends next to me started laughing at me, it was so funny and I said I didn't want to go on it again, of course I went on it and I loved it and now I go on it over and over again.

My worst memory at Six Flags would have to be when i go on Giant Drop and I had just eatin a hot dog, well we were being pulled up and I looked at my friends and my face was dark green, we got to the top and I was like "I feel like crap" the ride dropped and I hurled all over the place it was the sickest thing ever, I couldn't believe that happened and I was 14 years old I think I don't remember.

My favorite moment at six flags was the time i went with my neighbor in 1999. I was scared of coasters at the time and since she was a girl, i felt i had to be macho and rode everything. I have been hooked since. Runners up would be my first fright fest and my first buyout.

My worst time would be waiting in line for Whizzer front row at 10:30 on August 16th, 2002 thinking that it would be my last ride EVER on that ride (that was after they announced it was getting removed and before they ended up saving it). Only time i almost cried there, but i got a pic of the sign saying it was leaving. A runner up would be when i rode Chubasco with an engineering student (threw up three times in a garbage can).

Last year, on a crappy weather day early in the season, I got 37 rides in a row on Raging Bull. They actually closed the park early and gave everyone free admission vouchers a little later in the day.

That was mothers day, I remember it well.

Heres one: How about the day of the big blackout from NYC into Canada? I was there that day and STT was mid ride and was lowered down manually. Also only thing they could keep open was a few flats.

I've been going almost every year for the last 15 years. Good times.

Anyway, best time at great america:
Its a toss up between riding Superman four times in a row without even getting off the ride and American Eagle front row in 1997.

Worst time:
The first time I rode the Demon, I was 7. It was almost closing time. And it was dark...my dad forced me to go on it and it scared the crap out of me since it was my frist time on an upsidedown rollercoaster. Intense. I cried.

One of my other experiences at Six Flags would have to be the first time I was waiting in line for American Eagle and me and my sister and a friend of hers were waiting in the line, it was packed that day and the line was pretty long so we were waiting and my sister and her friend told me that while on this ride people fell into the water that was in the bottom where you go in the circle a couple of times after the big hill, It scared me to death and I backed out after my sister and friend got off she told me nothing happend and I hated her for that but I finally got the strength to go on it and it wasn't that bad I love that ride it's awesome.

Best Experience, was getting drug unto Viper by my friend Brad. I was still terrifed of coasters because of my first experience. I loved it, and couldn't get enough of coasters after that.

Worst Experience, was my first experience with coasters. It was my mom, my brother, and my mom's boyfriend Steve. Steve was a butthead he took my Cabbage Patch doll Fletcher, and left a ransom note on my bed.....anyway, I was about 6 yrs old and terrified of coasters. They drug me on Whizzer and my brother insisted on going with my mom, which didn't make sense since he wasn't scared. Regardless, I ended up riding with Steve. He pestered me the whole time, making me put my arms up, when all I wanted to do was hold on and close my eyes. I didn't get on another coaster until I was 16.
Welcome to ShockWave please pull your harness down as far as it will go. While riding ShockWave please keep your hands and feet inside the car, and your head against the headrest, please hold on to all loose articles, especially hats and glasses. Enjoy your ride!

The best times i had was one time when we were in hurricane harbor and a big storm came through and me and my wife and 4 year old took some chairs underneath a tiki bar and when the rain stoped and the sun came out and the viper fired up the beatles song here come the sun came on, i was thinking man this cant get any better than this. Then another time was when my 4 year old girl got to ride the demon with me for the first time, at first i was scared for her safety but i soon realized that everything was ok so me and my daughter rode the ride 5 times in a row. We have the theme song and we play it in our van and sing together about the demon. Thanks for the great season Great America!! Me and the little curly haired gremlin will return next year with season passes in hand and ready for more fun and fond memories.

I think all the firsts i have had there were fun too. My first coaster (Whizzer), my first bungy, my first funnel cake, my first loop (Demon), and my first concussion (Shockwave). All of which, are memories that i will remember forever.
