I remember seeing it closed on my 2001 visit. I wished it was never closed because I would've been tall enough.

Especially this quote. Come on Binks, do you have to say it so negativley and blunt like that :? Thats unbeleivably rude! Yeah, I bet you were alot "smarter" when you were 12  Just because you didnt get your foot stuck at that age doesnt mean anything. All of you think she did it on purpose and now your upset after its been gone for awhile, look at the pic closely if you have to...do you think she would put herself through that on purpose oh thats right....you guys think she was just a dumb girl....wow

Oh my god, bluntness. Just kill me. I feel just sick telling the truth.

Well, I do have to say, that it was her own fault. At 12 years old, you should know how to follow directions. Six Flags was ALSO at fault though. They knew that the ride needed an added part to make it safer, but since they had no incidents they thought that it was a waste of money. It was tragic, and it shouldn't have happened. The girl should have followed directions, and Six Flags should have forseen the problem ahead of time. But, since the girl wasn't following directions, the ride shouldn't have been ordered to be taken out. It had a simple fix that would have made it safer, and no incidents like that should have happened. Besides, weren't the girls parents with her....shame on them for not MAKING her follow a simple direction. The ops specifically said in their speil before they started the ride.."......keep your legs straight against the wall, and your feet flat until the ride has come to a FULL AND COMPLETE STOP." People in general are idiots. They can't seem to read or listen, then expect someone else to pay out, because they were stupid. Hence stupid warning tags on hair dryers..."Do NOT use while in the shower" Well.....DUH!!!

I never said six flags wasn't partially at fault. But, like you said, a twelve year old should be able to listen to and follow direction.

Come on guys....just stop. She was 12 just having fun, she probally wasnt thinking about her feet. Do you think about your feet positioning on a ride or coaster.....

It was a long time ago...sort of....so just dont argue like I have, its pointless.

Yes, I do think about feet positioning of rides. KC, Bull, viper, and Demon, all require me to think about where I put my feet. You keep saying, oh she was just having fun, that's like telling someone who's family member was killed by a drunk driver, oh he was just enjoying being drunk.

Thanks Binks. You're right.

Sure she was having fun.....BUT THE OPERATOR TELLS ALL RIDERS NOT TO DO WHAT SHE WAS DOING!!!!!!!!! This isn't rocket science....I learned how to follow simple rules and directions in Kindergarten......I didn't know that it took until 6th grade nowadays to learn something that simple. Wow, Bush's "no child left behind" policy has gotten here just in time. Apparently we ARE truly the worlds dumbest country!

And yes, when I ride rides and I see a space in the ride big enough to get my feet caught in......yes, I do tend to mind where my feet go. Plus, I don't try reaching down under the train just to see if I can touch the track without getting my hand cut off either, because you know, that might be fun too, because the announcement says "KEEP YOUR HANDS AND FEET INSIDE THE CAR AT ALL TIMES" I figure, that warning is there for a reason, who am I to say different. It's not like SF is trying to kill your fun with those rules...they are just trying to keep your appendages intact. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out.

gottastrata33 I'm with you on this one. When I go on a ride, I am not concerned about getting my finger snapped off if I put it up in the air. She was 12, she was having fun and probably didn't realize that her toe was pointed in the wrong direction.

I am not saying that it was entirely her fault either, SF new that Cliffhanger needed an added part to close the gap and didn't put it in. But, I first rode that ride when I was 8, and when the operator told us not to put our feet flat against the wall, I listened, and I am pretty sure that my mom who was with me wouldn't have let me either. I also know that when I take my kids there, I will be watching what they are doing. Having worked at the park and seeing what can happen when you don't listen, I am even more dilgent. Like that dumb 14 yr old kid reaching below the train of Viper to get his sunglasses, and got his hand almost completely severed in the gap between the train and the station, take a look next time you ride it and find out exactly how small that space is. Flight for life came and everything to fly him up to Milwaukee to Children's hospital. Now they tell you like 18 times "KEEP YOUR HANDS AND FEET INSIDE THE CAR AT ALL TIMES UNTIL THE RIDE COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP IN THE STATION" After that happened, until they put in the new speils in the brake run, we had to look everyone in the eye and tell them individually to keep their hands and arms inside at ALL times. It was crazy, from that point on everyone was treated as if they might be a moron.
Amusement park rides are dangerous, they move at high speeds, and they can't stop on a dime. Pay attention to those warnings folks, and make your kids do the same.

I see what you're saying and wish Six Flags did put that part in. In the Viper incident, the kid was complete moron because he knew exactly where he was putting his hands (there was a purpose to putting them there), although I suppose he may not have realized how quickly the train was approaching the station and that there was that gap there. Anyways, he should have listened. I'm not sure that the operator came up and told the riders specifically to keep their feet against the wall and pointed outwards at all times, but needless to say, there should have been no way that someone could move their foot 90 degrees, whether on purpose or accident, and be injured.

Summer of 97 I think, it was the year I worked there.

Another bit of useless info: Ever since that day they started repeating the "Keep hands and arms inside the car at all times" on the track as you move from the decorative building to the station (while on the ride). I think thats how to describe it.

Yep, the Viper accident happened in July of '97. I was working Space Shuttle America that day, and I had to stand outside by the gate where it now says Winner's Circle with the attendants of Sky Trek Tower to keep guests out of that area, because that's where flight for life was landing.
But, the operator of Cajun didn't specifically tell each person individually, but it is in the speil they say before they started the ride. You can get your foot at a 90 degree angle if you bend your knees. As the ride slows and the floor raises, you slide down the wall, and she probably got it stuck that way.

I was there it happened in 1998 a kid stupidly put his hands under the train and it ran it over and i don't know if it got amputated but they took him away in a helicopter. They closed the ride.

Seriously....it was '97.

Get your facts straight too, before you claim that you were there. He didn't put his hands UNDER the train, and the train did NOT run over the boys hand. The kid was like 14 yrs old, and he dropped his Oakley sunglasses and reached down to get them, right before the train moved into the station. His hand was caught between the train and the station floor. His hand was NEARLY severed, only a few tendons kept it on. They flew him Flight for Life to Children's Hospital in Milwaukee, where surgeons stitched everything back on......today he is fine. But it was '97 because neither kahmooza or I were still working in the park in '98, yet as we drove home from work that day....he wouldn't shut up about the employee cafeteria serving chicken fingers. I stood in the area where Sky Trek Tower and Space Shuttle America to direct guests out of the area so the helicopter could land there...and the next day at Shockwave they made us tell all the riders directly to keep their hands and arms inside the car at all times, we did that for a few weeks after it happened until they installed new speils on the lift, and the end brake run to remind passengers that even though we aren't going 65 mph, doesn't mean that you can ignore the rules.

It was 1997....trust me. Why does everyone want to say they were there, but don't know what REALLY happened?

That track out in the sun is the transfer track. The decorative building is the storage shed where the trains are kept at night.
