Hay Baler

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Whatever happened to Hay Baler after its removal? I only got to ride it once but I loved it!

Are there any good pics of it?

What could they possibly do with the cars if the machinery is gone?

I thought they scrapped the whole thing. They scrapped Shockwave.

If you want to experience the same type of ride as Haybaler, head down to Indiana Beach.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

Ride still on site. Is no longer salvageable but has not been scrapped.

Technically the only other ride like Haybaler that I know of left in the US is at Lakeside Park in Denver (though Chance&Alan Herschell Flying Bobs/Chance Alpine Bobs/Rock N Roll/Thunderbolt are all the same concept.

Actually the Chance version as seen at IB (also there are several in the Chicagoland area with various carnivals), is better than Haybaler as it's able to go in reverse as well as forwards.

Though the Mack version of the ride is even better, it goes quite alot faster, though those are few and far between in the US (Michael Wood, an Independant out of Texas owns a rather nice one called Sleighride, though it doesnt come up around these parts)

The one at GL (formerly SF Ohio) was working quite nicely. It's supposedly a Mack version. It was definitely my favorite FLAT at that park.

Yeah, that is as similar as you can get without having exactly Haybaler.

Ours was made my Jhle Brothers, which was bought by Mack, and after a modification/update or 2, they started producing them.

GL's Top Spin is quite good also, it was supposedly the first Top Spin introduced in the US.

It was in a barn like building by Sky Whirl. You'd sit in a small car and it spin really fast and go up and down while the cars swung out. There was a big pile of hay in the center, hence its name. It was a very cool ride.

That's what it looked like.

I've been having dreams lately that they've demolished HT Funnel Cakes and put back one of many old flats. Hay baler, Trailblazer (Even Though It's still there, It's just a dream) Power Diver, Cajun Ciffhanger, Sky Whirl, and Also Condor (Also Still There). It's weird, But It really sucks to wake up because I want them to rebuild Hay Baler and Sky Whirl...

Take out Go Karts and there's plenty of room for Power Dive. Take out Jester's or the the small space between the weight/age game thing and the kariokie (spelling?) place and put Cajun Cliffhanger back there. Last, take out Dare Devil Dive and put Sky Whirl there. Then try to cram Hay Baler somewhere in Southwest Territory. That might work.

Power Dive would have been better without the the Lapbars that try to pop you like a Zit, then the OTSR's who's shape hit you right in the sternum.

There are modern versions of the Kamikaze/SkyMaster that would be nice at SFGAm. Floorless one (Hawk, by Zamperla) is fun, but Moser Rides has one where you ride in pods and they are able to flip during the ride and can be locked in place to assist the flipping when they are unlocked. Called the Hoppla. They also have a version of that same ride with lay down seats (Delta Fly, I believe)

Six Flags doesnt seem to do business with Moser though, so if anything we'd get the Hawk (though I think they lost popularity after the one in TN tossed the rider, even though it was not Zamperla's or the rides fault).

I think Sky Whirl is too big for Dare Devil Dive's platform. Personally, I'd rather see new (or at least new to our park) rides come in rather than rebuilding old rides. Although your ideas are pretty good.

Actually Sky Whirl took up more space in the air than it did on the ground. For such a massive structure, it only needed the round space at the ground where you loaded and just a little more for the main tower structure. The other parts were strictly in the air. So it would fit in Dare Devil Dives platform. In fact I think it may take up less space than DDD.
Welcome to ShockWave please pull your harness down as far as it will go. While riding ShockWave please keep your hands and feet inside the car, and your head against the headrest, please hold on to all loose articles, especially hats and glasses. Enjoy your ride!

That's true, I was 10 when I last rode it so maybe I thought it was bigger than it really was. :)

I don't know about that. Big Top used to be there, and the line wasn't too big. Sky Whirl is huge on the ground. On arm was big enough. I don't know the dimensions, but there was quite a difference to get from one cabin on one side to the other. You have to remember that they put a whole roller coaster in that spot along with the Hay Bailer. On top of that, you would have to make a bigger line than the pre-existing one.
