Condor Lights

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby newjedi on September 21st, 2005, 4:37 pm
I need to know how many light bulbs are on The Condor.
Someone once told me that it has more bulbs on it than any other amusement park ride.
Also if any one knows haw many are on The Orbit I could use that too.

Thanks

How the heck would we know how many lights are on a ride? Unless one of you does in which case insert foot in mouth.

What the heck kind of question is that? I haven't sat in line for Condor long enough to count them (actually, I don't think I have ever waited in line for Condor period), nor have I EVER been that desperate for something to do. Unless it's in a book somewhere, I don't think anyone else has ever been that bored either.

As a science and semi-math teacher, I can tell you that you could just use estimation. (It does work you know). Estimate how big a lightbulb is on the tower and then figure out how tall the tower is. That'll give you a good guess on a number of lightbulbs running the tower (all sides of it). Estimate how many are in a certain area on each arm and multiply as needed. Same goes for the cars. You won't get an exact answer, but if you're dedicated enough, you can do it!

It does get worse. My students have had to estimate how many books were in a library, how many piano tuners were in a town and so on. It's actually a good way to teacher measurement conversion. But, I'm probably boring you all now. No homework for anyone!

Considering Condor, it probably does just considering the tower, the cars, and the top parts of each arm along that middle part.

Condor doesn't have NEARLY as many lights on it as most big rides. The Modial Top Scan, or Huss Top Spin (european version like SFNE) have MUCH, MUCH, MUCH more lights on them.

The dippin dots guy told me Condor has apporximately 8,319 lights on it.

Why would anyone NEED to know something like that?

No, No one here knows. I highly doubt that there is a soul on the planet who could tell you how many lights condor have. I'm betting the only statistic is tucked away in a file somewhere in the basement in the czech republic.

Seriously, why don't you call the park? Maybe maintenance can look it up for you or something. They must have some sort of manual to run the ride that would tell them.

I'm just saying chances are that the park will know a lot more about the number of lights than we would.

Even I dont know this answer :)

But yeah, if you really really need to know, your best bet is to visit the park and track down someone in the electrictal department of maintaince and they'd likely know or would be able to provide a pretty educated guess.

ALso make sure to at least let them know you need it for a school project or something like that, not just some coaster nerd looking for information that will never get them laid :)

There are exactly 8,642.5 light bulbs on the ride. The .5 is a broken light bulb near the top of the tower.

He doesn't, it was a joke. No one here knows. I doubt anyone at the park or huss has this statistis memorized. Get over your not-OCD, because you're not getting the answer.

Okay so i just got off the Phone with Great America

And they told me that there are 12,750 lights on Condor,
And that everyday during the season they replace 40 to 60 lights on the ride.

Also they mentioned that the electricity used to power Condor could power 6 houses!

They also mentioned that 84% of all statistics are made up
