Shockwave, 100%. It was a great decision by management to get rid of Shockwave instead of Whizzer. I still see whizzer with huge lines at times, and if you hate that ride, then there'e seriously something wrong with you. There is nothing to hate about that ride.

If Six Flags cared about Shockwave it would still be here!! They are the ones to blame about the roughfness on the ride and the harnest! And my guess is that Iron Wolf will suffur the same fate
Whizzer, why? Take superman, put it in whizzers space. WATER efects! We know how low suf gets to the ground now picuter that closeness with water underneth you. Shockwave went because the city presured SF into doing it.
Shockwave should of stayed, it was just a better experience. Remeber that view of gurnee you got on the lift hill at night? Remember the oddly pitched announcment? Remember the trees the grew besides the station. Shockwave was a Great coaster, and it will always be.

I have to somewhat agree with JG. I think location is a big issue here. It was perfect for SW, being able to see the whole parking lot and entire park (especially lit up at night) from being so high. On the flip side, it's a horrible spot for S:UF. S:UF would be a much more engaging ride if it were over water, through trees, next to a hill, etc. It's a double whammy- a boring ride stuck in a boring location.

I would still say Shockwave. For the first time I rode it, I had a headache. After that, I went back on it and it became boring. In my opinion, it was just too montonous.

I prefered Shockwave...SUF isn't a terrible ride but Shockwave was always special to me since it was the first coaster I went on at SFGAm (yes, before Whizzer).

Yeah, but then you highten the risk of injury when one coaster fails and causes others to be hurt on the other. For a vauge example, while I was working Shockwave, something happened that kept the coaster down for weeks, everyone on the ride had to be manually evacuated,although no one was seriously injured, I still can't elaborate since I am still under the thumb of the contract I signed when working there not to elaborate on things that go on in the park. But this particular malfunction, could have caused injuries to riders on SUF if that idea were put in place.

I bet you are talking about when the axle broke, which is one of the reasons Shock Wave was taken down in the first place.

I plead the 5th......Althugh what I was talking about happened YEARS before they tore it down...they took it down after the 2002 season....and I worked ShockWave in '96 and '97
although......I can talk about Demon's axle breaking...I didn't work there there then......whereas....it didn't shoot sparks like a certain coaster did.......it trapped all the riders upside down in the loop for hours, and they paid out a HUGE lawsuit.....why wouldn't they take it down. Don't get me wrong...I'm glad they didn't....it's one of the few remaining Marriott Coasters. Only three left....Z-Force and Tidal Wave are gone..

1. Theming, Superman may not have much, but at least it isnt a parking lot flier.
2. Appearance, For one, it doesn't look like a rusty old run down ride. Shockwave had rust spots and the paint was faded in the sun. Superman is a deep red that contrasts with the sky. Just looks prettier.
3. Ride, Superman may not be much, but it's unique to the park. Shockwave was just Demon on Steroids. Would you all want another version of Iron wolf with say 10 loops instread of 2? What was the point?
4. Drawing Power, Superman almost always has a full que line. Thats good, if the enthusiasts hate it, they they can just stay away. However, it is a GP magnet.
5. Ride, Superman has a boring second half, with exception given to the inline roll, but the first half is pure gold. The trip up the lift is frightening, the first drop is amazing, and words can't describe the Pretzil loop. The force of being pushed back into your seat with such force for that long of a duration is uncompairable to any other ride in the park. One of the best elements. Shockwave had the double loop going for it, but I don't think any of those loops exceeded the G intensity or duration that Superman brings to the table. Superman also has a lot less headbanging.
For these reasons I perfer Superman to Shockwave. I think it was a decision for the better by Six Flags.
^Shock Wave had THREE vertical loops, a boomerang and a corkscrew....

i wanted to ride shockwave before it was closed but by the time i got to sfgam next time it was gone. i didnt even know S:UF was gonna be built. was all prepared to ride shockwave but it was torn down

Superman is just a great thing to happen to the park, I enjoy driving into the park and seeing Superman right there, it is just a great sight. Superman also offers a great ride experience, though I wouldnt wait a full queue for it nor anything else, but it does not get the recognition it deserves. It could have more to it, but does it really need anymore in it, people love it, and ride it a few more times than you do, and you'll start enjoying it too. Also, would it be possible to really add anything else, that ride doesnt have that much speed in the first place, what would you add, a vertical loop? wouldn't work, they way it was designed, it would have to be squeezed in and might remove the whole "FLYING" experience. Remember, this ride is to actually make you feel like flying, which is why there are the three turns, which are like turns while flying. Adding a corkscrew, could have worked, but also had to be squeezed into the track layout, but also ruin the "FLYING" experience. I know some people will not agree about these things, but just think about it, would you rather have a 4 inversion flying coaster that really doesnt make you feel like you are flying or a coaster where it is actually a realistic flight path. They could have made it like BTR, but what fun is that in a flying coaster when it is suppose to feel like flying, you wouldnt fly a path like BTR, I think they put a lot of thought of experimentation in the ride design, and I think it suceeded. One problem though has been SUF's reliablity early this year, that ride didnt open on time once in the first 7 days, and had lots of problems, other than that, that ride is just great.
