I haven't been to the park since mid July so I have no clue whats going on with the palms. I remember on the tour in May Sevart saying they had techniques to winter the palms. I'm wondering if any of you who have been there and ridden anything that looks into the park (Raging Bull, Viper, SkyTrek) if you have seen whats happening with the palm trees.
I can't tell, but I think the palms are missing on the webcam, perhaps they have moved them indoors. I would sure hope they try to keep the palms after all they have done to try and rescue them this summer.
I just checked the webcam and if you look very closely you can still see the palm trees. I thought I remember hearing something about how they are going to import new palm trees every year. I just hope they keep them alive longer (damn chicago weather and its drought).
Yeh, My guess is new ones are coming in, When I was at the park the last thursday HH was open, those trees were pretty dead looking, and I doubt they would go through the trouble of saving them( if possible) when getting new ones would be much easier/probably cheaper
Real palm trees helped to create the carribbean atmosphere that Six Flags wanted. Fake palm trees just wouldn't be the same and in my opinion, it would look kind of cheesy. I don't know, but I for one hope they continue to have real palm trees.
They did SUCH a good job with theming and getting you away from Illinois / a theme park with Hurricane Harbor. I think a HUGE part of that was the real palm trees. Unless your going to a heated indoor place (zoo, hotel, etc.) you don't see real palm trees aroud here. Mixed with the Carribean atmosphere, it really helps take you away.
For that, I really hope that Six Flags does keep the real palm trees, because they are a huge staple in keeping the atmosphere the way it is.
