Hurricane Harbor music

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby Mr. D.T. on September 3rd, 2005, 11:22 pm
Before Hurricane Harbor begins to shut down for its first hibernation in the cold lonely winter season I would like to start a brief topic focusing exclusively on the Hurricane Harbor music. I am curious to know besides half the Jimmy Buffet box set and the Bob Marley Legend album, I, as well as others, would like to know some trivia on the other songs (such as the instrumentals) played at HH, and what music device plays the songs. My opinion is that it comes from a satellite, but I'm not sure if it does.

I thought I heard a country western take on Sloop John B at one point, and sophomore efforts on Tequilla and Don't Worry Be Happy.

I highly doubt it comes from a satellite, as you've already pointed out, it is a preset loop. I'm sure it is off the same system as the rest of the park.

It is a loop (a very short look I noticed yesterday)

Also played are some Dick Dale songs, and that advertising song they used in the promotional videos. When the park first opened they seemed to be a whole lot more Dick Dale (love Dick Dale)

By contrast I would highly doubt it comes off a CD. At one point I was there over two hours and I never heard the same song. At the same time I don't think it comes off a satellite. And if it is in a preset loop the songs must play randomly.

The musical pieces I find intriguing are the ones with the steel drum.

Where did I ever say it comes off a CD? They probably have a digital sound system (i.e. a computer) that they can incorporate separate areas to play separate tracks, but things like Lost Parents spiels, the Vengabus song, etc. will override those tracks and play simoutaneously throughout the entire park at once. And if it is in a preset loop, that means the songs do not play randomly. It means that if there are, say, 10 tracks, after it goes through all the tracks in order, it goes back to track 1 and goes through all the tracks again, in order.

I'm aware of that, Twixmix. That's the way it is with the rest of the park. I've known that for seven years. I'm not sure about Hurricane Harbor.

I just wish they wouldn't play that Lost Parents spiel too much, or get rid of the old one of five years ago with a male voice.

Maybe I was overreacting.

Now some SBC commercial often plays on the system. Where's the Marriott spirit these days?

Mariott spirit is still there, the music in the park, Great America signs still in the park (orbit and Logger's Run), they still have County Games Gallery almost the same way, and many more thins that Mariott did that is still there, they try to preserve it.

So what that a SBC ad plays in the music cycle, that is not on CDs, it is in a computer system. They have sponsers and need money, so they let them have ads, it's not a big deal.

i always wondered how the music worked. all i knew was that some speakers were in the rocks, and that's cause my cousin who works there told me when i was little.
i'm rocking the suburbs, just like quiet riot did...
