Ideas for a new themed area

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby SFGAMNUT9302 on June 7th, 2003, 6:57 pm
It seems that SFGAm doesn't have a lot of room left to build a new territory, but if one were to be constructed what type of theme would you want it to have? I'd personally like to see an old southern, confederate village themed area. I think it would fit right in to the Great America theme genera, and would be pretty cool. I think that a DC area would seem stupid at SFGAM. What other ideas do you guys have?

Well, alot of other Sixflags have Warner Bros. Backlot. I think it would be cool to see a movie themed area.

Not a good idea. "Super Hero" has nothing to do with the historical United States, which SFGAm has done a decent job preserving. How bout "West Coast?" Nah...

I like the confederate Area idea, they have one like that at SfOg and it looked very cool, and well themed.

I was thinking the same thing about the Confederate idea. What about an Oriental theme?

Ehhhh... I don't know.... Oriental? It seems to me that if you go ethnic, you going to end up with an Epcot-type feel; and believe me when I say that out of all the attractions at Disney World, Showcase of Nations is my least favorite. Why not go with a big city theme? We have nothing even close to that! New York, New York!

Yeah, an oriental themed section in a park called great AMERICA!I really think they should take Yankee harbor and transform it into a more "urban" feeling. I just think they have the oppertunity to transform it into an east coast city. Taller buildings, and more urban themeing that batman has. Walls with grafiti, junkyards, and stuff like that. But it all doesn't have to be like run down part of the city. They can have an "uptown" feeling to it. Like V2, how it looks all "high-tech-ish" and there could be a few flats with an industrial/corparation theme to them. Well that was just a thought. For a whole new expansion I would have to say a 50's/60's beach theme. I mean, the park has been planning a water park for how long (or so we think) I think that a cali/beach theme would be pretty cool. I have no clue where it would fit, but I think it could work if it was done right. That's enough of what I think for now...

Yes, I agree completly with all of that. I really like that "Urban" idea, it would be a great move for the park IMHO.

Yeah an urban theme would be cool. Same with the 50s/60s beach theme. :) So what if the park is called Great America they have a Yukon theme and the Yukon is in Canada. Same thing with Orleans Place. Orleans is in France. When you go on the train the recording says its a territory themed around Napoleans time which was a hell of a long time ago. Its not called New Orleans Place.

sfgamfreak4life, When did you last ride the train? It does NOT say anything about Napoleon! The spiel makes remarks about "As we enter Orleans Place, the aura of the NEW ORLEANS French Quarter is apparent"And who said the park is called SIx Flags Great United States of America? If my geography serves me right, Canada is in North AMERICA, right?

Im not 100% sure about all of this so here it goes. I already said that Orleans is in France. York, Jersey, and Hampshire are in England. When the French settled in the U.S and made the Louisiana Territory they named one of the cities New Orleans after the city Orleans in France. When the English first founded the U.S. they named some of the states New York, New Jersey, and New Hampshire after the cities York, Jersey, and Hampshire which are in England. Same with New Mexico.

Get your history right. You are way way off. The English never founded the US. There was a bloody war between 13 colonies, now of which are most of the states on the east coast, and the British. English did not found the US, Americans did. The first Americans (that weren't Native Americans.) Anyways, New York was not settled by the British. Ever hear of New Amsterdam? That was New York's original name, founded by the Dutch, who hail from the Netherlands... or Holland...Or wait! Holland, Netherlands, Dutch? None have anything in common in the name! Oh it's confusing! Why don't they become Dutchland, and keep the name Dutch, or something simple like that? Freakish Dutch...Lastly, the French never settled in the US. Well, not when New Orleans was founded. The US still didn't exist. (Well, maybe it did, but it was not to the Mississippi yet.)By the way, get rid of those extra lines in your signature. Keep it down to 3 lines, not 6.

English British same thing. Native Americans did live there first but the Bristish went there and called it the U.S. and they took over some of the land and later on they expanded. Netherlands is Holland. They should just stick with one name. Ill get rid of the extra lines in the signature.

I say they go with a space feel, a final frontier type feel. Not like Tomorrowland, but something different. I don't know exactly, but I think it would be cool and different.

I think if there would be an old mideival (sp?) feeling to a section of a park it would be very attractive. Just think of different themings on rct, those seem to work very well. I like quite a few of those too. The frontier feel and old fashioned towns are overused in theme parks though.

in my opinion: If they were to re-theme an area, I'd say they should use the money to re-theme some of the areas they have now that are looking preaty bleak. Yukon Territory and Yankee Harbor are some examples, and Orleans Place could use some more work too.But They need a place to step away from all other theme parks. They need to create something that no other park has. I mean you can basically go to any theme park to see some western thing, around the world theming, animal/zoo theming, American Theming, ect....Well hopefully you get the idea of what I'm trying to tell you.

Yeah isn't that this whole thread here? Well I think Southwest is solid and good, but some others could use a little work.
