Actually I think Rolling Thunder occupied the Viper queue/Trailblazer area more so than Raging Bull. Pictures can be found at rcdb, just type in rolling thunder.
There is no brakeing of the ride while it's free in "bobsled" mode. I'm also assuming that this ride carry's no trim brakes. The ride follows a track just like any other coaster for the lift and station/station brake run. The ride is slowly funnled back to the center of the track where it fin brakes slow it down just like any other ride.
I've been on Rolling Thunder tons of times, back in it's day's here
at Great America, and pretty much the breaks did slow down the
train a bit. From what I remember, going into them was a bit
rough, but hey, I still love Rolling Thunder!!

Viper and Rolling Thunder stood at the same time in 1995. If I had the 1995 map I could show you what it looked like. It was torn down to make room for Southwest Territory. It also occupied the space where Raging Bulls turnaround is.
Go to http://www.coasterpictures.net and go to SFGAm's page. Then click on Rolling Thunder to see a comparison of before SWT and after. Thats the best I can do.
I remember going on it when I was little. The two things I remember the most are how much the ride actually sounded like thunder, and also how much it hurt when the trains hit the breaks. The trains would jerk sideways really hard when they slowed down, causing a lot of pain on the legs where the large lapbars were. It was still a fun ride though! Its great to coast freely not on a set track.

Part of Rolling Thunder was in the spot of Vipers snake queue. Viper didn't have that section of queue until Rolling Thunder was removed.
Yeah, there was also a path across that long field between the queue and the exit so you could reride and didn't have to walk all the way out to the damn bridge since it was so far away.
I think what jon revelle meant to point out was the bobsled ride in the background, its on the upper left hand corner, sorry if previous posters noticed it . It just seemed like no one did. I think its rolling thunder if i am not mistaken.
I'm running to Bull on opening day, anyone gets in my way and they'll get trampled.
Sorry but that is a proper name, used only to describe the damn bridge that is far to narrow and has a gigantic ramp instead of steps at the important end at SFKK that splits the park in half.
