I see this all over.. Great America is always one of the least talked about Six Flags park and it's one of the best or even is the best. For the people that do talk (very few) about GAm, they seem to always give raving reviews.
There are so many positives that brings any other Six Flags park to shame.
The park is darn near spotless most of the time.
Great selection of coasters.
First to have inverted, B&M, hyper-twister coasters. Great history.
Has best themed area in any Six Flags park. (Southwest Territory)
I've seen some argue that we also have the best themed Hurricane Harbor. (I must say, the themeing is excellent)
Excellent layout. It's all circular and doesn't have any dead ends besides the area with Stargate. (but no one ever goes down that way anyways)
Great collection of flats. Two children's areas.
THUS, catering to both enthusiasts and families.
Mostly a great atmosphere.. (besides the occassional encountering of loud, obnoxious, annoying people)
When I do get their food, it tastes great.
Dedicated staff. You can tell the staff (behind the scenes too) is really dedicated to their job. Almost all rides are always opened. (besides things out of their control (V2, DeJa Vu) And most ride ops (mostly coasters) really get the crowd going so everyone will have a great time.
Staff has definitely improved greatly over the years.
I'm sure I missed a few points.. but hopefully I made my main point clear. Great America is one of the best, if not the best Six Flags park. It's always never talked about or ever considered. GAm should really be looked at more.
It's a shame this hidden gem is being kept from the glory it deserves.
The problem SFGAm has with not being talked about that much is because the name Six Flags is attached to it.
Ignorant enthusiasts who have never visited the park just automatically lump it with other SF parks that have crappy customer service. But, the ones that do eventually visit usually leave surprisingly happy.
But, on a good note, lets leave SFGAm as the not so talked about park. It helps keep the crowds down for us.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.
I have to agree that the park is under rated, but a lot of the rides are too. Iron Wolf isn't that bad of a ride, whizzer is nice because of the trees, viper is a great woodie, and AE is my favorite wooden coaster.

Lol.. you were wrong 1000 times. Sfmm is nothing, I repeat nothijng like Sfgam.
I would also agree that SFGAM is under-rated and is the best SF park that i have visited. And i would agree with Chi-Town that the SF names gives this SF park negative PR that it doesnt deserve.
My complaints about the park is medicore food that is priced too high and the medicore kids area's. When it comes to kids area's it needs to look at PKI or PKD as examples of parks that have excellant kids area's. Now this doesnt affect me as much as my kids get older but it is something that needs to be worked on.
I do think the park has a excellant collection of coasters and the past year or two the ride-ops have been very motivated and doing a great job and the park has been clean. Things have gotten alot better at the park but sadly the park has little room to add new coasters/big attractions without removing something.

Well what I mean by this is the rides like Goliath...is the same as Ragin Bull. Viper same as Shockwave. However, X and Scream are the difference in both parks along with the original rides. I believe these are the two rides that SFMM got from us, but I do understand that its all one big Six Flags happy family so I guess they can do that. SFGAm was the start of all major thrill rides. We were the first to have a stand up rollercoaster, first to have an inverted coaster and so fourth. So Timmy, I backed up my point to say im not wrong, same thing about Dippin Dots ::cough::
I had no problem with the kids areas, well because I dont really go there. What complaints do you have for the kids areas?
No matter how hard it is...Never EVER give up. The real failure is those who dont try.
So theyare similar because they have Goliath (which really isnt that comparable to bull) and Viper is very similar to shockwave... which isnt a part of Sfgam.
if thats all you have to argue Sfgam and Sfmm's similarity......
sfmm-worst maintained park in Sf Chain
Sfgam- Arguably one of the best maintained parks.
Sfmm- Large park with alot of room for expansin
Sfgam- Forced to become creative with any further expansion
sfmm-Concrete walkways
Sfgam- Asphalt walkways
Sfmm- Hours away from civilization
Sfgam- Right in the heart of chicagoland
Sfgam: Bar none the best Customer service
Sfmm: do they even have customer service?
Sfgam: HH planned and executed correctly
Sfmm: HH planned pooirly which is an excuse for them closing down rides
Sfgam: Very energetic lively ride ops
Sfmm: some of the most ignorant ops ive ever seen (with exception of scream crew)
Sfgam should get more recognition, its a fun park for all ages. It is very well kept, ride ops are very helpful. I think that sfgam deserves more praise then it currently gets, but like chitown said , at least the crowds are low.
I'm running to Bull on opening day, anyone gets in my way and they'll get trampled.
O wow now im convinced! ::end saracasm:: I was not relating to the themes and ride ops etc. My comparison is the rides that I just said. I do believe however that Goliath is the same as Ragin Bull. Put it this way, if the GP went to SFGAm first then to SFMM, they would noticed the same particular rides. Deja Vu bigger, Goliath bigger. Nomore Shockwave we can ride Viper at SFMM. People like Timmy critique and compare on the smallest things that dont make the parks alike. Im just basing on the huge rides that SFGAm first had then SFMM got the same basic idea, made it bigger, and took the attention. But hey its business and now who has the last laugh! Please dont start an argument here, im not in the mood to put people down right now. I had enough of that the other day.
However I do like SFGAm better. Even though we dont have Scream, or X and Superman the Escape. The rides that open on a regular day here, out do more than the rides at SFMM. The scenery is way better, including HH. Question. Did SFMM have the first HH?

Tim don't start again. I know you care soooooo much of sfgam that you get offended when someone to you is making a what you call a false statement. Latino was saying that sfmm is bigger in populartity than sfgam. You try to make someone look wrong all the time. You can't let people say their opinion without saying "that's not true, you're dumb, you're stupid, or i know i'm right but I have no sources i'm just smart."
So tell me Tim what is going to happen next year if you're so smart????

I think Tim's complaint is that he can't ride the rides he's too tall.
You would think they have the same food for every Six Flags Park but they dont. The food at SFGAm is actaully really good, depends where you eat it at. Some places have oven food. However, restaraunts such as Aunt Marthas Boarding House, Fire House Pizza, Crazy Buffalo, Bourbon Street Cafe, Bayou Grill, and Fiesta Fries etc. make their own food so expect the quality better. Fiesta Fries actaully makes their own food and if you look at the center window in the mornings and sometimes in the afternoons, you can see them cook the steak and beef behind all the steam from the food. You can look in the back you would see how they chop up potatoes and turn it into fries...yum. Although, Pizza Orleans and those types of food places use ovens. I dont know about Farmers Market, but I think its a mix of oven and actual made food.

I agree with everything else except the two listed up above.
P.S. I think that some of yaw are to harsh on SFMM. Yes operations might not be going to well right now, but corporate is at fault I believe. They need to give them the funds so they can fix their rides. Hopefully 2006 will be the big year for them. It's already rumored a flying coaster along with revamped new section close to SFGAdv theming of the Golden Kingdom.
