V2

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

First, V2 has no 'Engine' It has magnets that power the train.

Second, the parts would come from Switzerland, as Intamin is a swiss company.

And you can say V2 blew it's motor, but you cite no sources when saying that.

I also find it unlikely that V2 blew it's motor. Those magnets are just laminated steel coils. They are energised and energy is sent along the longitude of the magnet. This pushes the stator (mounted on the train) down the track. When the ride holds the train on the back spike, energy pulses are sent both ways down the LIM magnet. The magnets themselves are very expensive and are also very reliable. It's more likely that the electronics that support the magnet have failed.

Now I'm not making a statement saying that that is what happened, but from my research on LIM's it seems that that might be a likely explination. Would also explain why LIM magnets were off the track and techs were working on equipment above them.

Here is V2 on Satuday and Sunday the 6th and 7th, on the end of the launch. I didn't see anybody on the ride or in the station at all both days.

Image

Deja Vu broke down Saturday, wasn't up on Sunday either.

In the 1st pic, you can see the train between the back spike and loop, and in the 2nd, you can see a guy on the back spike hauling up a bucket. Kinda cool! 8)

As of Yesterday (Monday the 8th) V2 is still in that same position, and yesterday morning during testing Vu got stuck on the second tower, and they did get it fixed and the train was able to get back to the station, but that ride was closed the rest of the day. I don't know if that's the reason or not, but It was, in fact, closed.

They were testing Deja Vu Sunday before the park opened. It was about 9:55, and its was going just fine, when suddenly we heard what sounded like metal, on metal that lasted for about 3-4 seconds just as it went through the station. We watched as it valleyed back and forth between the first tower, the station, and right before the cobra roll. Throughout the day, I noticed that it was ever so slowly inching its way up the tower as you leave the station.

as of today 8/9, there are LIM's missing from the launch track, one LIM sitting under the exit ramp (looks used/burnt up somewhat), and the train is at the very bottom of the twisting spike.

It aint opening anytime soon.

If LIM's are missing it's a possibility that it may be out the rest of the season especially if these are custom made parts. But hopefully they get it working soon.

Burnt Up? How, it's a laminated steel coil.

It would be possible for a wire/conduit/or fan above a LIM to short causing overheat issues that would melt a LIM casing.

Its only speculation, but it would seem possible given the layout of V2's systems.

LIM shouldn't be too hard to replace.

I have a question about V2 that I don't know if someone asked yet.

What happened to the V2 sign above the entrance? It was broken the last time I was there.

The outer plastic casing/liner was pretty dark (normal as a result of the heat LIM's generate, though this one looked like it was at the end of it's usefulness)

Basically today I saw V2 test twice. It is still missing the LIM where row 14 would normally be, though. It's sitting in the middle of the launch again. I also saw the LIM in the station near the exit.
