Grooming guidelines for SFGAm employees

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby Chitown on January 8th, 2003, 8:13 pm
Back when I worked at the park in 1987 (I know, I am old :D ), the grooming rules were pretty strict. No earings or visible tattoos for guys along with no long or fadish hairstyles.Today I have noticed that some of the male employees have hairdos and earrings that wouldnt have been allowed back in the 80's.What are the grooming guidelines today? You want to talk about a park that is anal and old fashioned, just look at Cedar Point. Their guidelines are ridiculous. Its time for them to get with the program and realize that males with jewelry and certain hairstyles are well groomed also.http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/jobs/i ... m'Chitown', who knows he wouldnt get hired a corporate park today because his hair is almost halfway down his back.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

i'm guessing they're different... things change as time goes... what wasn't acceptable 16 years ago is today acceptable... it's like a long time ago when girls' skirts could only be so many inches above their knees; well now look at what girls wear! so i'm sure it's somewhat different...

Those guidelines couldn't possibly last much longer at CP. Does anyone know of other restrictions that any Six Flags Parks have?

Yes I'm aware of that but I was saying, are there any other restrictions other than grooming that you must meet to work at Six Flags. Sorry I didn't make myself very clear. I know most of the policies are similar, just not all of them, but that isn't what I was asking anyways.

Are you sure it says Opporator and not "Operator"? j/p I really don't know because I'm only 15 1/2 and haven't had to deal with anything yet, I'm going to write to SF soon about getting a job at the park.

Hey, anymore these days you can never be sure. I guess there is a chance it said operator, but I guess we might have to go back and check just to make sure.

yes, you do have to go through training... at cedar point they have a "training day" where you learn the safety rules and how to operate the rides... then later in the day they get to ride them... :D

They probably had to take a class because they need to know all the ins and outs of the rides because peoples safety is at risk and the park could be sued if someone was seriously hurt. I think that is why Riverside closed down!

Yeah that is true though, unless they did on the job training because I'm sure they wouldn't just start you as a ride op the first day would they? You would have to have some sort of experience I think.

Yea you would have to something. I would enjoy learning how to operate a ride, and all the mechanics of it. It would be very interesting!

What are the grooming guidelines today?

It's pretty simple good ethical appearance, they don't want any employee to be visually intmidating while working. Basically no fad type hairstyles (meaning spiked died hair, etc), males don't wear earrings, females can wear 2 earrings per ear and can't hang down (I believe, I may be a little off on this), shirt must be tucked in at all times with name tag on the proper side (left), no facial hair besides neatly groomed mustaches for men (growing mustaches during the season not allowed), sideburns do not extend down past earlobes, no holes in the earls large than _x_, and no visual tatoos.

You want to talk about a park that is anal and old fashioned, just look at Cedar Point. Their guidelines are ridiculous.

It's not rediculous at all, it's basically the same as SF's.

I'll quote from the book the O'Riely Factor which says it best:
"You want to look like Dennis Rodman? Tatoos are a kind of label, but they don't say what wearers think they say. They don't say "i'm hip, and cool and unique." No, they say "beneath these silly pictures and slogans on my skin, i'm a dunce." With a tatoo your never going to make it in the white collar world of America. Thats your choice of course, I leave it to you. But a tatoo is a bad thing if you care avout your earning power.

Also a great segment from the O'Reily Factor book:
While tatoos are silly enough, peircing is rediculous. Do I have to explain why? There is absolutely no need to be pierced. Okay, it might send a message of noncomformity that will appeal to some elements of society, but it is destructive of your personal image in a straight society.

Virtua Tennis is basically correct:
Females-
No fad hairstyles, no tails (full pony tails are acceptable), no shaved designs or words in hair or eyebrows, moderate cosmetics, nail polish-conservative colors(foods cannot wear nail polish or artificial nails) and the nail cant exceed 1/4" past finger,jewlery-2 rings per hand, one simple watch, no visible necklaces, two post earrings per ear(no larger than a dime and no dangling or hoops), no facial jewlery(including tongue), and socks are required(nylon or sport socks/plain white with shorts)

Males-
no fad hairstlyes, no shaved designs or words in hair or eyebrows, no tails, hair may not exceed more than halfway down the ear and may not extend over the top of a dress collar, sideburns may not extend past the earlobe base, must be clean-shaven, mustaches cannot extend beyond corners of mouth, jewlery-2 rings per hand, no visible necklaces, one simple watch, no earrings, no facial jewlery(includes tongue piercings, socks are required( plain white crewsocks with shorts)

Fair I think.

If only some of the people who go to Cedar Point followed that dress code. Only if I had a nickel for every tatooed freak I see at Cedar Point, I would have about ten dollars. :-D

Believe me, you would make a lot more money than that.(You know, some are also hidden, too. But you can't see those :) )

Yeah, Cedar Point definately has the worst people come to their park. When I was at BGT, 60 year olds were walking around, lol. Granted it was Christmas Eve...
