Just curious if Great America will still be doing fireworks tonight. Does anyone know if they still do? I thought they stopped a few years back, but I'm not positive.

Six Flags DID stop doing their fireworks simply because Gurnee won't allow them to anymore. The village was concerned about the risk of fire and injury if something ever went wrong with their pyrotechnic system and that's exactly what happened on the evening of July 4, 2001! One small technical difficulty broke all havoc loose firing a countless amount of arsenal into the air and as a result a countless sea of guests left the park disappointed! And so the village thought "Those people are jerks! Take control of the show before they cause anymore damage!" and so they stopped Six Flags from having their firework show and had control of it from then on.

Just Curious, Did anyone go and see the Gurnee show? Is it any good. My family is looking for a new venue next year...

I've seen it last night. The finale was appealing but I didn't think it held up to last year's, which came by surprise 'fooling' the people into thinking the show was over. The best firework finale I've seen though is the one at Waukegan Harbor back in 2002 which went on for several minutes in a row.

I used to live in Vernon Hills. They put on a great show, except for one year when they spent half their budget on a lame 'laser show.' They fire them right over a lake, and everyone sits around the perimeter of the lake... they usually have a couple local rock bands there as well. Their fireworks shows are usually done very well, I would definitely be sure to check it out.

No, SFGAM has a right to do the shoot fireworks. They get a permit every year. It's just there is no place to shoot them from. Last year they took advantage of the fact that the back lot was being redone and did a fireworks show on 09/11.

Did they ever do fireworks another night? Because I thought last year they did one the day of a CAD... But I guess that could have been a different place or person.

Oh yeah, I recall now. I've seen that one. I thought they weren't allowed to anymore.

The last time they did a real firework show was across the expressway.
