Weather accuracy

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

I'm planning on going to GAm on tues. what website do you think has the most accurate weather. Some say t-storms possible but the National Weather service sight so there isn't any chance. I would think the the NWS would be most accurate. Or at least I'd hope so considering that they are the ones who issue out watches and warnings. Just looking for some other suggestions

Would a 40% chance be likely to shut stuff down?

From my experience, the National Weather Service does. Weather.com seems to just use the MM5 model in their forcasts. This does not take into account the lake breeze or urban heat island effect. Also, most weather.com forecasts are automated (from what I hear), chances are that nobody even saw those numbers.

40% chance is the chance of rain all day. If it does rain, then stuff will get shut down, if it doesn't then nothing will. SFGAm doesn't just look at the forecast and say

"Hmm, 50% chance of rain today, I'll flip a coin. Heads we stay open, tails we're closed. Awwe rasberries, it's tails."

Well NWS says just haze and no storms, so I think we'll just go and keep our fingers crossed. How bad does it need to be to shut rides down and how long after rain will stuff open again. Just from experience?

I don't know. We've been in a HUGE drought lately, in fact today was the first day we got rain in June! But yet I always hear "30-40% chance of ISOLATED T-storms".

It depends. Most coasters will operate in light rain with the exception of Whizzer, Deja Vu, and Spacleys Sprocket Rockets. All of the roller coasters will cease operation for moderate to heavy rain. If there is any lightning in the area, all rides that go over 30 feet into the air also cease operation.

Good Luck.

Yeah I think it will be alright. Even if it does storm it will probably be short lived so I'm praying for the best and preparing for the worst I guess.
