Traffic Gridlock Nightly at SFGAM

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Last night,

i waited about 1 hour to exit the over flow lot after the park closed. Needless to say it wasnt fun.

People in the parking lot like to go through the empty spaces to try and get out of the lot.

I had the misfourtune of also having several morons block me in while waiting in my car.

SFGAM needs to change the lot configuation or try and reopen the Washington St. Exit (if possible) to eleviate the congestion.

Sadly I think there are a giant pile of rocks in the middle of our Washington St. exit. I remember last year it was easy to avoid the 1 hour pain just by leaving that way because nobody else really knew about it. It really does suck to have to wait so long to leave the park though.

I like to stay in the park awhile after closing so the lot can get a little more cleared. You can also socialize with the cars around you, maybe try a Chinese Fire Drill or something with the people in your car.

Ha Mike!, I got out in 5 minutes :).

I told you yesterday that was going to happen if you didn't move your car from the overflow lot to the regular parking lot like I did.

Until they are able to reopen the Washington Street Exit it's going to be a pain for anybody to get out of the overflow lot at closing.

The Washington Street access road is still littered with construction debris. They have cleaned up the dirt that was all over it, but until crews are finished with the cleanup and portions of the road are repaired, it will remain closed. It should reopen sometime soon.

My advice is to take your sweet-ass time leaving. Wander out of the park, don't run. Take your time to browse a store in Carousel Plaza (if they are still open). Or get in a long ride line just before close.

It's gonna be a pain. It's not the layout (and it isn't going to change) its just a mass exodus and there is a traffic problem. Oh well.

Dangit, I lost my post.

Enjoy the warm weather. Roll down the windows, throw on the radio, and just relax. It isn't going to be nice forever. I mean, there is no real rush getting home.

I've never gotten mad getting stuck in the traffic. In fact, I like traffic (werid eh?). Just got to be patient.

Sevart said that they planned on using the Washington street enterance again this year. And like Greatamerica2003 said, they are working on clearing it out.

We're not yet even in the most crowded season yet.

Leave 15-20 minutes before closing or get in line for Deja Vu 1 minute before closing either way you avoid congestion that is how I do.

What I do is always get in line for Vu right before closing, so I end up leaving the park at around 10:30ish. By then there really is no traffic getting out at all.

Exactly. Just go in a long line just before they close the park and by the time you leave, traffic will be fine.

either get in a long line, walk around and look in a shop, or sleep in your car and have someone wake you up when the traffic clears.
