Rumor :: Whizzer to be Removed after this season

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby E.R. Webmaster on June 21st, 2005, 4:34 pm
I know Screamscape posted something about this today and I have also heard it from a few other sources and I was wondering what you guys though of the rumor that Whizzer is to be removed after this season?

I think its possible, but not likely. with all the addititions in recent years, I don't see the need for them to remove it for a new attraction, and to remove it and not replace it with something is just plain stupid in my opinion.

What do you guys think?

This is probably going to be closed because it's speculation but I will put this in here. I have heard that Whizzer will be torn down in the near future but I don't really believe it.

Bottomline: I see no reason to take it out this year unless it's begining to run so unreliably that it dangers the safety of passengers. It's almost certain that we won't be getting anything new next year coaster-wise anyway. It would just be wasted space.

You know what... I thought that up until about a month ago. SFGAdv got a huge addition last year, With Kingda Ka, and the new section of the park, and I immediatly ruled them out for '06. But now its almost a gaurantee that they will be getting a HUGE woodie next year. Hmmm... Could Six flags have something up their sleeves?

All I'm saying is that they could easily splurge on their bigger parks this year(even though we just got HH)

Well I don't intend for tis to be a thread where rumors of new attractions and stuff and stated, I was just wondering what you guys thought of the possibility that we would be losing Whiyyer 2 years after we fought for it to be saved.

The park has not yet to announce anything, therefore no one knows whether Whizzer is leaving or staying and no one knows what we are getting next year. (if anything)

Rumors, rumors, rumors, oh how I hate rumors!

Whizzer to be torn down?? Yeah right! And moneys might
fly out of my butt! Yeah, the day they get rid of Whizzer,
is the day we get a 4D coaster, which is virtually impossible.

Come on people, don't ever believe what Screamscape says.
I never do. I only believe things, when I see them happen, and
when the park announces what is going on.

I don't see this happening with all the guest complaints last time they tried. Why would the general public stop caring this time around?

Ok, the chances Whizzer is leaving is pretty slim. Why do it? And even if they did, what would they put there?? Besides, Screamscape is a load of Bull, dont believe a word of it.

Wow people, stop jumping to conclusions. :(

Here is what I have gathered,

Screamscape is sometimes right and a lot of times wrong. Screamscape can a lot of times be compared to Six Flags with that statement. They have made horrible decisions in the past, but have made many perfect decisions. I feel that the company/park will make the best possible decision for Sfgam. Though plans change, I'm sure if the park IS going to go ahead with any radical changes, it is already established. I guess we shall see, but there seems to be too many contradictions in this topic to a point where none of you seem to be positive.

Well, I guess I will be the first to say, enjoy the waterpark now, and let time take its toll. Things will work out for the better. :)

BTW, what happened to everyone wanting Iron Wolf gone? I leave for 3 days and you guys have already changed your minds. I've heard Raging Bull is being taken down, but HEY, what do I know.

You might wanna go check Screamscape buddy, 6-21 is it?

The park I think realizes this ride is a favorite of many, and I think it with it being not far from last time, they might keep it for a few more years.

It's still way too early for any of us to even care. Plus, as has already been stated, Screamscape's reliability is 50/50 at best.

In any event, I can see a couple of things that could indicate that this is true, and a few others that seem to make it highly unlikely.

Why could this be true:

1)GA was already looking to scrap this ride a couple years back
2) From what I've heard, and I'm no expert, Whizzer is fairly expensive to maintain. Again, don't jump on me, that's just what I've heard others report.
3) If any of the reports about the park adding marquie attractions are true, they will almost certainly have to remove rides to do so. The footprint of the Whizzer would allow for some flexibility in that regard.

Why this very well might not be true:

1) The public showed great disapproval for the move when it was first proposed. That wasn't what ultimately saved the ride, but it certainly didn't hurt the cause. While pleasing the GP will always take a backseat to the bottom line, I'm not sure if they want to go that route so quickly.
2) With the addition of HH, it seems unlikely that a major new attraction would be coming our way next year. It would, therefore, be unnecessary to remove Whizzer at that time. It may very well be the next coaster to go, when the time comes, but I'd be very surprised if it happened after this season.

In any event, the fact is nobody, except for SF brass, knows what's going to happen. It's fun and interesting to speculate, but it really doesn't make sense to worry about it until the offseason, or until we start to see construction/destruction equipment show up around the ride.
I'm gonna twist ya, and I'm gonna flip ya. Every time you squeal, I'm just gonna go faster and harder.

I think the whizzer should be removed, and built into another park, it is just another kiddie ride and we have enough of those already. I know it is the last of its kind so i think being rebuilt into another park would be best. I would rather have shockwave here than the whizzer so i dont want another good roller coaster to go down because of the whizzer

SFGAm Guy 14: No.
Six Flags is currently trying desperately to Cater to families. While It's possible the Whizzer could be removed I doubt it in the near future. And "We have enough kiddie rides?" See the first part of this post. Family's are where the money is. And the park doesn't only cater to Coaster Enthusiasts, as most of us have season passes and provide the park with barely any money when we do go.

Oh GOD am I sick of all these new posters telling us about how any ride that's not TTD or KK sucks and that SFGAm needs to remove their kiddie rides.

As for Whizzer, I do not believe Sf is going to remove it...yet. The GP only 2 1/2 yrs ago practically saved it from being destroyed. If it is, probably a new section will come with it with a couple intense flats, maybe some kiddie rides, maybe even Ameri-Go-Round, possibly a water ride, and possibly a tiny coaster or two. But for now, Whizzer stays.

ah...no. My 3 year old daughter just took her first ride on the Whizzer, and it is a perfect beginers coaster for young kids like my daughter, who now, can't get enough of it.
