SFHH Palm Trees

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby CoasterDave316 on June 18th, 2005, 1:14 am
Am I the only one who has noticed that almost all the palm trees in Hurricane Harbor have died already?

Was in the waterpark today and noticed all of them were pretty brown looking. Kind of sad since the waterpark looked so nice when they were nice and green looking.

Guess this answers any questions about what they will do with them over the winter to keep them from dieing....

Pffft. The palms were the BEST part about Hurricane Harbor. Best place to see them without driving 1000 miles. They really set the atmosphere.

I haven't seen any pictures of the dead palms, but it doesn't sound good. Palm trees need the right soil composition and moisture content to grow. Perhaps the moderate drout we're in is playing a role.

Oh well, maybe we will get lucky and be graced with a truckload of new palm trees to our park. Or maybe they will install really ugly and crappy fake palms. With the latter, they will never truely set the atmosphere as a southern Florida coastal village. People were complimenting how well Six Flags did the themeing for that park, I hope this doesn't dent that.

Ya, there the BEST if you like them Yellow and Crusting.....they didnt last long at all....ive been to florida and the Palms at Hurricane Harbor are not like the ones in florida....there dieing and fast....

What they need to do maybe is put heating units at the base of the palms tree's to heat there bases. that might help

Even last week on the 11th they looked in pretty bad shape.. I noticed though that they now have those green covers over the base of the trees... maybe a special watering procedure??

Yeah I noticed those green covers as well. The tree's looked pretty dead to me yesterday. They were probably quite cold though like anyone else who braved the cold wind.

They will frequently be bringing in New Palm trees this summer. Not to worry. I'm guessing in the next couple of weeks you'll have green trees again.

:ready to break out into a Monthy Python skit:

well hell, why not...(with some smooth editing)

it's passed on! This tree is no more! It has ceased to be! It's expired and gone to meet 'is maker!

it's a stiff! Bereft of life, it rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed it to the perch it'd be pushing up the daisies!
'It's metabolic processes are now history! It's off the twig!
It's kicked the bucket, it's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!!

THIS IS AN EX-PALM TREE!!

I read that and was expecting something more along the lines of the holy grail and the whole coconut bit, but I think the parrot bit worked pretty well.

Of all the aspects killing the trees I would have to agree and argue that the cold nights as of late are probably whats doing them in. Something that grows in almost tropical climates doesn't do well in the temperate zone.

It's a late palm tree. Look, He's nailed to his perch.

No, we've not been really below 50 degrees and Florida during the winter has been know to reach the mid 30's. I still think It might be a lack of soil moisture or soil type, Palms are one of the hardest plants to grow.

That's odd. I thought those were realistic 'fake' palm trees when I went.

in all honesty, those trees looked brutalized from the moment they were planted, I think they arrived damaged and were probably mishandled in shipping. I'd expect for the park to get them replaced sooner or later.

Just to clarify: The palms around Skull Island are all fake.
