No More "Fun" Spiels at Great America

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby Jamesb58 on June 13th, 2005, 4:11 pm
Hey Everyone:

I just received word from one of my friends that Great America won't
be allowing employee's to do custom fun spiels at the rides.

Apparently, they were being "offensive" and Six Flags told the Employees
that they can no longer do the Fun Spiels at the rides now.

I agree but disagree with this move by Six Flags. What do ya'll think?

When did your friend tell you this? Cause they still do them at rides in the park, I have heard them as of Sunday.

Basically the ops will do custom speils instead of the normal recorded speils that are played before every ride at sfgam. More guest involvement usually makes for a better ride.

^Minor correction, they do the "fun" spiels in addition to the pre-recorded spiels.

If anything, I would think that park management would just crack down on the individual ops who supposedly made offensive comments over the mic.

No reason to discontinue the whole thing.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

I was told that TODAY was the starting day they could not do custom
fun spiels on the ride. Last day of spiels was on Sunday.

I think Chitown's right to a point. if its just a few people offending people, those individuals would be dealt with. but if it was wide spread, I could easily see management forbiding it.

however, I never noticed it as a problem. I thought some of the spiels could be interpretated as dirty or such, but I always figured it was innocent. I say leave them.
I don't have a detonator; its on a timer.
A countdown timer?
No, a count-up timer. It goes from one to explode.

So spiels are when the ride ops say "Welcome To Viper!, Before taking off, blah blah blah?" Right?

I doubt this is the case.

If it is, its a very, very bad move on SF's part.

I guess I'm in the minority here when I say I don't like the custom spiels. I think most of them are stupid and also leave the potential for error or leaving important information out. I also liked the original ones.

^^^
But you have to understand that they didn't replace the required spiels. They were only a unique addition.

I never heard the original spiel on Iron Wolf or DeJaVu when I rode them. American Eagle was using the original ones exclusivly.

Want to know the worst spiel in the park?

The operator of Ricochet who says "Yee Ha" over and over again.

Good riddens to the custom spiels!

^I really liked that!! That cracked me up. For slower moving rides (one train operation), it just slows down the ride, so I would say no. I didn't think they were offensive at all though.

I was just annoyed by the guy on River Rocker asking people to ride his banana. I think this is both good and, well, not bad..but more blah. Blah because things go back to normal, and good because we don't have to deal with obnoxious things anymore.

The spiels were being used today. The Deja Vu crew had its usual set of spiels. A new one I found on Raging Bull was "Tenacious Teal" for the teal train.
