Hurricane Harbor Trip Report - 6/06/05, Skull Island.......

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby danieln84 on June 6th, 2005, 10:03 pm
Got to Hurricane Harbor around 11:05, Rented our $8 locker, changed and headed to Hurricane Bay. Tested the water which was WARM.

1. Headed to Typhoon/Vortext (Toilet Bowl Slides)...The line took for ever, went on the Green/Blue BOWL (pink/purple closed)....They ROCKED....so awsome.

2. After The Bowls we head right to the Body slides right next to them. Went on the Blue slide, WICKED AWSOME!!!

3. Head next to Wahoo RACER, while in line for Wahoo Racer we got to see the GRAND OPENING of Skull Island (or no? well it looked like a grand opening to me). they took down the Coming Soon signs, the manager was signing off some papers and they let people roar...it looks so awsome, though i didnt go on it.

4. Got my MAT and headed up to the Wahoo racer, and wow what a ride, you shoot down the tube and out, down the hills and SPLASH!!! so awsome.

5. After Wahoo we went to the wave pool, stayed there for a couple awsome cycles.

6. After all that we re-road, the body slides, wahoo racer, and the other tube slides next to wahoo. went into Hurricane Bay wave pool some more and so forth.

OVERALL - my day was awsome, Ever seen BURNT TOAST? thats me, see i forgot sunscreen. lol but ill survive.

Another NOTE: The FAMILY SLIDES were CLOSED and the LAZY RIVER was only running HALF WAY, meaning you enter near the changing facilities and were forced to exit near The BOWL Slides

So i noticed in the island (which the river goes around) some pre made Concrete supports and stuff. is that were the rumored TORNADO is going?

I found $2 in the lazy river just floating around the bottom, THANK YOU FOR NOT MAKING THE PARK BLACK TOP!!!

I went today too and had a great time. Skull Island is awesome, there is so much to do there, even with out the slides running.

Slides I went on: Teal Tube Slide, Vortex, 2 tube slides on HM, Wahoo Racers, and I also went on the lazy river and wave pool a couple of times. I wish I could have went on the family raft rides and other half of the lazy river, but still had an awesome time.

Sounds like the staffing problems have spilled over to Hurricane Harbor during the weekdays.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

Sounds like a good day, but also sounds like it was really crowded.

ya, talk about expensive, you know. SIX FLAGS really needs to stop hiring people who are still in Highschool;/Collage im not saying to STOP ALL TOGETHER, but maybe they need to try the following

Re-define seasonal/parttime. i think there problom right now is that they hire people still in school. highschool and college sometimes. and not enough older people. that is why from opening day till around mid june, half the rides DO NOT open because they dont have enough staff.

They need to hire a mixure of people who can work the whole SFGA SEASON or people who will ONLY work Spring (april 30-mid june and then say october) and then have all the kids who are in school work summer. i mean they have to dosomething so that they have FULL STAFFING at all times

Its unfair for people to be paying 44 dollars and then all the sudden you get there and half the stuff is closed, and they only run 2 trains becasue there understaffed or hurricane Harbor were they only run 1 bowl slide or 2 out of 4 tube slides, no family ride and you could only go through HALF the lazy river

I'm guessing that most of the staffing issues should be gone by the end of this week.

any idea if, at least on hot days, HH is cutting back lines at least a little on coasters? Specifially RB.

Nolan(sfgamshockwave) said that with HH at full capacity, all the ride lines were short(RB at 15 minutes). Much of the backlot was full too.

HH will be helping a little it appears.

yeah, most schools are almost done, so it'll be good. I know what you're saying with the low staffing, though it doesn't matter much to me because i have a pass, but it does disappoint some people. during the summer the coaster lines should get shorter, the waterpark will come in handy on those hot as hell days...

Eight dollars for a locker is a rip-off as is nine dollars for a small bottle of sun-tan lotion!!!
I guess the idea of giving sun-tan lotion away for free like HW isnt possible for a park that is claiming to be more family friendly!!

actually 8 dollars is good, because the lockers are bigger and deeper then the STANDARD lockers in the theme park

We all know that anything like asprin, sunblock, even chapstick is going to be expensive at ANY park. How about going to Target and getting a huge tube of Target brand sunscreen/sun lotion for $3.50 and then bring it in with you? It'll last you all summer! That's what I did so that I wouldn't have to pay $9 and then complain about it.

They do? Huh?

By the way, I tried the open areas of Skull Island today. It rocks. I litterally spent two hours on this one little water spraying thing that was right at the exit to the orange slide (The Only open one). And Here's a tip, Don't Sit up on the SKull Island Slides, If you lie down you go much faster and I saw people pushing themselves along when they were sitting up.

I can't wait until the entire thing Opens up!

Yes they do. I rented a $6 locker, they are a little smaller then the $8 ones. I actualy ended up selling it to some kids for $4 when I left so I got it for $2. :D

Six Flags should do what Disney does. If you "close out" the locker (there is no key to return), then you get a cheesy mug or $1 back. Then the lockers would cost only $5.00 or $7.00, which is more reasonable than $6.00 or $8.00. And, they can still keep a dollar from whoever is too lazy to return to the rental place and get their dollar back.

Oh cool it sounds like they lowered the prices on both lockers by $2....when I was there last it was $8 for a small locker and $10 for a large one.

There are 3 sizes. They are $10 for large, $8 for medium, and $6 for small. They are now taking cash and credit cards for locker rentals.

I think the main reason Six Flags can't higher older people who can work the whole season is that, those people are working steady year round jobs. I don't know many 30 year olds who want to work for about 5 months and then find a job in the interval.

Where are the small lockers located? Are they on the north side of the changing facilities?

By the way: Both the family slides were opened all morning and until about 3:00, The Blue and green one (Bubba Tubba-I think) closed and then the Orange and Purple one closed about ten minutes before 7:00. And Yes, the entire Lazy river was running today. The second half is interesting...
