HH Opening in 17 days...what do they have left 2 do????

Actaully they are making all of the lifeguards get re-certified through this program that they use.
I applied for a job there, and they are hiring people 15 and up to be trained as lifeguards. I was there over spring break, so people have been taking an online course and doing in the pool training for a while now.

What is the family raft slide problem??
Some of us believe that the last turn on the Green and Blue one needs extra foam or fiberglass or whatever on the top to keep it from goin to fast and flying out. Don't know if it's true, obviously none of us (at least not me) are experts on everything waterslide. So It's just a guess.
FParker185 said that if you walk around the slides and trace the path from the top to the bottom you would see it if they didnt patch it up. the patch it up part leads me to believe that theres a hole/crack in one of the slides for some unknown reason.

On the webcam it looked like they installed the lift for the family raft rides....did they??
What about all the landscaping that they have to put in, are there signs of that coming in?

Yes, there's dirt everywhere, and I know the landscaping departments been swamped recently. I imagine there will be some extensive themeing. And Skull Mountain looks great!
Whoever posted all of those pictures and a trip report from hurricane harbor yesterday anwered our questions about the raft rides. They ended up being 6 or 8 inches short I think. Same with the lift for the rafts.

It is a great view from the top of the atomic coaster slide complex. The only thing that will not be ready for Wednesday's media day is Skull Island. That should be done and inspected Friday night.

I hate to be a naysayer, but everything still takes time...Balancing the chemicals takes days to get everythign correct...once you get your ph right you find out your akl is through the roof...so you fix that and it puts your ph and akl okay, but that sends your ppm sky high...so you fix oyur ppm wich then drops your ph way down again...it sucks...and the larger body of water, the more difficult it can be...then with teh lifeguard stuff...i understand that they are bringing in experienced guards, but they still need to be trained on THAT facility, again..which can take a few days...and if they can't be in the water to train (because of the chemicals not being balanced) that can push that time back...then they have OSHA and the Illinois Health Department to worry about...let me tell you...if they find one little thing wrong (and the ALWAYS do) it can take even more days to fix their listed problems...
Again..I am not trying to be the voice of doom...I jstu have a feeling that it won't be open full time until after the 15...all the power to them if the get it open on time...but as a season pass holder, I'm not getting my hopes up... Dan
Watch your local news tomorrow. You WILL be surprised. And yes, Skull Island is not structurally ready. It WILL be open Saturday though.(Unless a problem arises.)
Fifeguard, I understand your concern, but I dont have those concerns. I think a park chain that operates many waterparks nationwide would know how to prepare a wavepool before it opens. If all your saying was the case, the pool clubs and waterparks around the country would never open. I have seen pools be filled and ready to go in a week.
Quick update, not really a trip report. Driving past the park on washington, you can see all the recliners our whatever you want to call them. There are hundreds if not thousands of htem being stored along the side of a building backstage behind american eagle. they look really nice. They are white but have an orange and blue stripe on them. Also, there are many large trees in the washington street entrance. Of course, only contruciton crews use that. Some trees are layed at a 45 degree angle and are really tall (not palm trees) and others are just big shrubs. I assume they will work into the night getting all of these in the ground before tomorrow. I hope the park is going to be completely ready on opening day, and i bet it will, but man; six flags is calling it really close. There are still 3 or more cranes in the park, not alot of landscaping, not all the theming in place, ect. Welcome to The O.C. biatch
They hope to finish Skull Island on Friday May 24, and have the inspection completed Friday or early Saturday, rightbefore the park opens, if all goes good, Skull Island will be ready for opening, if not, it will be roped off and closed till Sunday.

O yea I forgot to mention this when I posted about the trees and the recliners or whatever they are (for some reason I am completely drawing a blank on the name of the darn things). Either today or yesterday, a crane was out by the highway sign putting up a hurricane harbor sign. I dont know if its just a banner or if it is a billboard attached to it, but it is just the hurricane harbor logo in blue letters with a white background. Check out the webcam, and you will see where the sign is located, but its too blury to read (not that you have to, considering you know what it says). Hurricane Harbor looks great on TV for media day. CBS-2 sent down a guy with a dry-suit, which sounds good in the near 40 degree temperatures up in Gurnee. The park looks good to go for the weekend.
The talking parrot, and a pirate, also made an appearance this morning. According to the reports, the water only started to begin heating yesterday. The water temperature should get up to a nice 70 degrees by Saturday's opening.
Yes, you can see the lawn chairs from the queue line of American Eagle Red....however in another post someone said they would be expensive extremely nice ones, they are not expensive, they look good, but probably cheap in cost

I know what you are saying, but there is still a difference between opening a BRAND NEW water park that has never operated before...and re-opening an already existing wark that has operated for many years (those club pools that you speek of) Trust me, I hope they get everything open on time, it is just in my years of experience (I've opened water parks, closed them, dealt with the Health Department, and opened brand new water parks) Illinois Health Department is pretty strict...and there is also a HUGE difference between a little neighborhood pool, and a gigantic, high profile, lots of people from all around go swimming at it, waterpark... I don't want you to feel like I'm trying to pick on you, because that is not my intention by coming here...I hate to be a new poster and my first messages all sound like this...The Internet clas you speak of for the lifeguards...I know the program pretty well because I used to work for that lifeguard company...the Internet protion is jst pretty much designed to replace textbooks and whatnot...you still need 10 15 or 20 hours of practical training, in the actual environment you will be preforming the rescues... I'm not saying not to trust the lifeguards, all I'm saying is that I'm not swimming there till the place has been open for two weeks...that will give the staff time to have a few In-Service trainings at the actual park... If anyone is curious about my background...I am a lifeguard Instructor Trainer, and have been for 7 years...I've tought hundreds of lifeguards in the midwest, and taught hundreds of people to be Instructors...I'm a CPO in the state of Illinois...I'm not trying to doubt you...I jsut have doubts in six flags... Dan
