Six Flags Go Wild!!

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby T.K. on October 12th, 2004, 5:53 pm
I think that if Six Flags needs more money, they should make some THEME! Look at Walt Disney. Kids and others love to go there to see Mickey mouse, amaizing castle, and other increable themes. Walt Disney have only 2 roller coasters, you know, and there are making a lot of money! AND NOW: i think Six Flags should do the same. In the place where is Batman they should call it Gothama City (now is yankee i think, not sure). Where is Superman, it should be Superman theming. Southwest territory is great. When you walk there you feel like in southwest, but other parts of SF, are .....no word to say....bad! What do you think? By the way if Bunnny, dock and others are the Six Flags characteristics why I don't see them in park? Thank you!

First off, the park has good theming and should not (forgot to put that in originally) have a Gothom City or Superman themes. It is themed to the advancements of America, hence the name Great America. The only part of the park that needs added theming is by Demon and Deja Vu.

Also, the characters are usually in Looney Tunes National Park, now that it is Fright Fest, you will be seeing less and less of these characters, and more of the monsters. the only time other than Looney Tunes National Park, is when they are at the Carousel Show or in Looney Tunes: We got the Beat show, which is over.

This post is...no word to say...BAD

Anyway honestly Theming is not going to bull SF out of debt. Neither is an old man welcoming you to ride his special bus either. Six Flags needs to do some smart business tatics i.e. Building a Water park next to Great America. Also, Six Flags needs to put more focus towards general park upkeep as well as figuring out a way not to loose money. Which no one here or in Oklahoma City seems to be able to figure out.

Building a 456 foot Roller Coaster might seem great, but it actually could prove to be a mistake.

We were able to figure it our but oklahoma/coporate kept on doing budget cuts.

Our themeing is beyond belief head over to Universal Studios Orlando, the oringainal park the themeing needs some upkeep like IOA more than we do.

I'm not going to touch the themeing thing, but about the characters. Bugs, Daffy, Foghorn, Sylvester, and sometimes Taz and Tweety are all in Six Flags Party and can be found at the front of the park. At fright fest they dress teh cretures up and do meet n greets all over the park.

well sorry, i agree with the topic. Its SUPPOSED TO BE A THEME PARK. THEY NEED TO RE THEME IT. ITS ONLY CALLED GREAT AMERICA BECAUSE IT USED TO BE MARRIOTS GREAT AMERICA,

Well Now six flags owns it so they need to re theme it. batman has nothing to do with yankee harbor. i agree that the theme should go with the ride and not with something totally different

theming is good and all, but you can't compare SF to to parks like Disney/Busch. they're open year round and are tourist destinations that bring in money by the bucketfulls solely because of what they are and how the promote themselves. SF shouldn't spend a lot of money on theming because its not going to help them. families will help them, but families don't necessarilly look for theming. they look for a wide variety of things to do together.

I'm not saying I dislike the themes in our park, I love them, but if SF pours money into themes, they can't put money into getting a wide variety of rides and attractions.

technop, you missed the main point of Great America's name change. who cares about the GA part? its the SF that counts. Marriot no longer owns the park so all their plans to keeping the themes perserved went out the window. SF isn't Marriot.[/code]
I don't have a detonator; its on a timer.
A countdown timer?
No, a count-up timer. It goes from one to explode.

Is theming a problem? In my opinion, it is and it isn't. Theming territories is not much of a big deal to me. If you theme rides, people will recognize them more often than not such as Superman, Batman, Scooby Doo, and so on.

Sure if one theme of a ride can support a whole area such as a Gotham City, or many others, that would also be good. However, I think it's better to deal with theming a ride.

I guess the area that I have a problem is the Looney Tunes area. Sure, they have kids rides with Looney tunes theming, but they are put in ONE area. Why not have Revolution be Taz's twister (or something like that)? When Sky Whirl was there, they could have called it Tweety's Bird Cages and had some things painted on it. The things I'm talking about are very simple.

What do you think of when you think of ANY Six Flags park? (Other than Mr. Six who previously to this year nobody could think of)

Warner Bros. Characters...Espicially Bugs, Daffy, and Tweety. That has been what all Six Flags park's main themes have been forever.

When I think of any Six Flags park, the first thing that comes to mind is roller coasters. Then I'll start wishing I could go to that park...

The average once or twice a year park goer probably thinks of SF parks being Looney Tunes, coasters, rides, and shows equally.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

No really, but if you have a problem with our themeing your a nutcase. SFGAM is called great america because it is themed to america; Orleans place(uit actually looks klike new orleans) Mardi Gras celebrates the parties in New orleans. Yankee Harbor represents a New England fishing village. Yukon Territory represents the canadian Yukon sector and is heavily wooded. County Fair represents the county fairs of americas past. Hometown square represents the early 1920's small towns before the surbia event. Southwest territory is self ezplanitory. Hurricane Haerbor is the carribean which i may add is also in America. But when you walk into to each themed area you know you are there because straticly located attraction shops, and games.

Yeah, T.K. If you have a problem with GA's theming you should move to Florida so you can go to Disney World and ride the Peter Pan ride.
How much longer can I last until Opening Day! ARRRRGH!

So where would a city like Gotham -- which was based on the seedy underbelly of New York and tells the story of a young man who becomes Batman to fight crime in the big city to avenge his parents -- fit better in the park? There is no other place that Batman could have gone to fit with the theming. The only questionable placement of rides based on their theme would be Deja Vu (who has had a 180 suspended looping coaster at their local County Fair? Ever? There are wood coasters, there are games, there are flat rides... but Deja Vu?) and why is Superman in Orleans? It would have made sense in Hometown Square where Whizzer is... but at least the queue line and the surrounding area still definitely fits that Orlean's Place theme...

For a park that is more rides based than theme based, I think that Great America is about as nice as it gets when it comes to theme. It isn't a Disney park, but it isn't trying to be and it doesn't have to be.
