I was at Valley Fair on Saturday and Steel Venom (replica of V2) their magnets of that model were extreamly loud, like when it stops you in mid -air it makes a loud screeching sound. Does V2 at Great America do that?
Well if you're there in the morning when they start it up it almost hurts your ears cause it's so quiet around the park, and yes it does make a noise when it stops (although I hear it's not as bad as Valleyfairs).
Yes, it does. All that "screaming" is mostly from the ride itself. You have many other rides by V2 (Whirlgig, East River Crawler, and BTR), and thus these can block the noise somewhat.
Yes, actually it makes two. The main one is like a whining noise. The other one is when it goes up. It's hard to describe it though. I guess it's like a stomping noise.
What's kind of funny, is if you go on the website for the Village Of Gurnee, and dig through the meeting minutes, when SFGAm proposed V2, they said the new coaster would be located on the site of the Whirligig. They also said the new coaster(V2) would have advanced technology, and be quieter than the ride it was replacing.
Do you think the park gave that line just to make it seem more appealing to the neighbors, or did they really not know how loud V2 would be??
I think they were trying to stress the point that V2 had no moving parts to move the train (i.e. a lift hill) - therefore, it shouldn't make any noise. I guess they left out the fact/didn't realize that the LIMs still make lots of noise. Still, when you're in Yukon Territory, you can't hear V2, can you? (or at least to the point where it's obnoxious)
I just want to make an annyoing comment. I hate it when people change their avatars. (Not that you shouldn't) i just usually know if it's the cubs symbol it's sfgamer, or if it's the shot of vu's cobra rolle it coaster corey. It always confuses me. anyway...I'm done talking now.

Yeah i'm sure they appreciate it when it starts up around 8am the clear signal "WHAAA WHAA WHAA WHAA" then the launch which you can hear from real far away in the morning "baaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh," lol.
Whirligig actually makes alot of noise, just not anywhere near the ride
Everything the ride does is Hydraulic that is fairly silent, but the motor house across the midway(between the bathrooms and that gift shop) that feeds the ride makes plenty of noise all day long.
Same with Orbit(though I know it wasnt mentioned), just that all the stuff that makes noise there is across the water nearly in SW territory.

I love the sounds V2 makes. When you are in the station and the train is coming back from the first tower. The LIMs make a VVVVVVVVVRRRRRR sound. Also when you stop on the back tower the brake makes a RRRRRRRRRRRR sound. I just love the sounds.
It's green. It's blue. It's all over you! Enjoy your ride on Déjà Vu
