The American Eagle

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby maneuverman on August 5th, 2004, 1:01 am
Ive posted this because ive found a bunch of people that think that the eagle is unsafe or too old and should be tore down. Then ive found people that love the ride. I for one feel that it is a tough ride that has stood the test of time, and for its age has good reliabilty and looks like its in preety good shape for its size and length. Yet even people that get on it poke fun at the ride like its a hunk of junk and it will one day kill us all. What do all you guys and girls think???

It has stood the test of time. I really can not remember ever going to the park and seeing it on the rides that will not be operating today sign.

I believe it will be a long time before it gets torn down, because there is no benefit to tearing it down. An out and back coaster on the far end of the park does not net a lot of space. Look how far it is away from the main paths. Any ride or rides in its place would just be a pain to get to.

I think that the AE is a good ride and yeah it will be a long time for them to tear it down. I like the idea how SFGAm keeps its old tradition and old classic rides and theme unlike PGA but if they do tear down the AE imagine how big of a ride that will be. ( The new one )

Here are my thoughts:

I don't think american eagle will be torn down for a long time. If they do tear it down it would be a waste. If they ever open the washington street entrance again, there would be nothing cool to go under while you drive.
You see I like the cubs and the white sox. If it came down to the world series I'd pick the cubs.

AmE is a classic coaster. Pure classic. It dosent make my top 5, but when I'm on it, I love that thing. In fact, when im n the last row to leave the station on AeB, I seem to get more airtime than on Bull. I don't wanna see it go (in this decade atleast), but who knows? Blackpool Pleasure Beach has kep some coaster from the '20's and '30's! Why cant we?

I don't really like the ride, but if they do decide to get a bigger, better rollercoaster, then it would make it seem like getting new coasters every other year was a major competetion. Like with Magic Mountain, or Cedar Point. Plus, I think I read somewhere that AE is the parks Premier Rollercoaster or something like that?

People say that crap because they don't know what a bad, poorly maintained coaster is.

One more thing I have to add to my response up there, if sfgam were to do something big to american eagle then I'd want them to do this: Refurbish it and get brand new trains to it. Give it some TLC and mabye make the helix a little wider because they have the room.

AE is not unsafe or too old. It's a classic, and surely a great ride. I ride it every time I go to the park. It will not be torn down for quite a while.

American Eagle is a great coaster and one of my favorites at Great America. No its not the smoothest thing in the world, but considering it is a woodie and its 24yrs old I think it runs pretty good. Racing coasters are a lot of fun and its nice that Great America has new high teck rides and the classics in the same park. Its one the fastest and tallest woodies in the world and you cant beat the first drop. Overall I think its a great ride and probably wont be going anywhere as long as its taken care of.

It can be either way. And don't worry about it, because it's not going to happen any time soon.

I heard that American Eagle was getting torn down for a 4-D Floorless, with no track and 67 loops

American Eagle getting torn down is as stupid as that above statement. The fact is that American Eagle Red has been plain hauling this year. Eagle is a Great America Icon and with out it, Great America would certainly be deeply hurt with out American Eagle.

American Eagle is one of the best wooden coasters in the world. The only problem I have with it is the loud sound at the end around the last circular turn.

I think that the reason why people would want it torn would be because they just don't like it, like me. It's not because it's old or it's unsafe. With all things considering, they won't be taking this down.

Reasons for this would be having two/three wooden coasters (which many big SF parks like to have), and the fact that they have 11 instead of 13.

If your excuse is that they couldn't fit another coaster in that spot, you have to be kidding. If they ever did put another coaster there, they could always connect a path by the SWT ampitheater or what would be wrong where it is now.

The biggest reason to get rid of it would be unpopularity. However, there are more unpopular rides in the park (one in particular) that would be gone before this.

***There's a bigger crowd of people watching the ride get stuck on top of the lift hill, than that of people being in line for it.***

If anyone says American Eagle is unsafe, just tell them it doesn't run in manual anymore, as it's a lot more safe now than it used to be.

I heard that American Eagle was getting torn down for a 4-D Floorless, with no track and 67 loops

Thats getting really annoying [even more annoying when it's sarcasm].

AE red is by far kicking major booty this year. Sit in the back seat on the red side and tell us that you aren't being tossed from your seat.

A couple times I had to put my arms down and hang on.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

I will agree with everyone on the fact that American Eagle is a great ride! I love how red is flying so fast this year, and it's good to see others saying so(I thought it was just me! :P )
I don't think it will ever be torn down as long as the park is open, as I've seen it stated many times that in terms of lasting popularity, American Eagle is one of the most successful coasters that SFGAm has ever installed. And it has to be, I mean, look at all those switchbacks in the tent!! :)
Finally Coaster Season!!

....not to menchin those were all full back when it used to run 6 trains with 10x faster loading.

I love how red is flying so fast this year

They must be trying to preserve some track on Blue, its fun to be watching it completely stop before all the turns while red just speeds right by it...

They used to run six trains! I'm sure you meant six cars per train.

Now that AE is coming up on 25, are any of you like me and think they are gonna do somethin' special for it when it's it's birthday?

3 on Red, 3 on Blue.
...the way it operates is more modern now it's 2 on each (proximity stuff controlled ALL by computers)

Collosus at Magic used to run 8, before they put in the mid course block by the way.
