Yankee Harbor Themeing

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby planea380 on July 13th, 2004, 8:57 pm
We all know that Yankee harbor's themeing has been declining through out the years...If you were in charge of the park what would you do to it?

I would put A light house back on the Island by Ice Mountain....

I would change the whole area, because it isn't a harbor anymore. Yankee Clipper is now Ice Mountain Spash. So now there's nothing that has a harbor theme anymore. I would make it a downtown city area. I would rename V2 to somethign more city-like.

I said it before and I'll say it again.

SFGAm should get rid of IMS because it's not open as much as LR, and put in Mr. Freeze, a Premier ride in. Mr. Freeze on the water would be awesome. I would change V2 to Robin and make it red. Now, we would have a blue (Mr. Freeze), red (Robin's Wild Ride), and yellow & purple (BTR) coaster in Gotham City.

Mr. Freeze along with Gotham City ideas were both brought up by corporate, and Managment turned them down. JUst to let you know. Premier Rides are soo painfull after their first 5 years.

The reason IMS isn't open as much is because the water on that is chilled. So they only have it open on hot days.

When was this, in 1992 when BTR was first put up? We have new management this year. They can always change an area such as they did Mardi Gras.

Actually mid 90's more Gothman City, and Late 90's for Wilderness Coaster(Mr Freeze.) Tim Black was selected for Jim Wintrode's position, because he reflected Windtrode more than anyone else in the company.

I really don't understand why they gave Batman it's name if you are not going to make an area over it. They should've called it the River, and painted it blue to fit the area. My thinking also has to do with SUF. It doesn't make sense to call it these names and put them in random areas.

It's like putting RC in Yukon Territory. I guess if you went to SFOG, you would see how cool it is to have a Gotham City. It's only one of two areas over there I remember. The other one was American (which wasn't too good, but I remember it because they had a new indoor scrambler that had American music to it).

That is the funniest thing I have ever heard in my entire life. Then why did they have IMS open on opening Day, and the only person that was stupid enough to go on was Brad. It is open all the time now, It was closed for mechanical reasons...not chilled water.

You would surprised how many comments like that tyster22 has written and how many topics he's killed.

THat was the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Ice Mountain is usually closed due to staffing and that it isn't the most popular in the park. It is almost always open on weekends and hot days. Recently it has been open on most days.

For all we know, (unless you really do know  ), it shares the same pumps, etc. as Logger's Run, and they can open close off each side separately, and drain each side separately.

Well I think that Yankee Harbor should just get repainted. I think its fine how they made batman and everything like that. Its just that the area is to small but people complain how Yankee Harbor is now. So if they change it to like a Gotham City imagine how many people will complain then. I think that SFGA should remain how it is the way it opened just add stuff to it like there doing now. Dont remove classic things. Also does anybody know why they didnt want to open a Gotham City?

From the bathroom/arcade straight across to the overflow queue IS Gotham City considering everything (even the bathroom) is themed to Gotham City. Not a big vacinity but I consider it Gotham City.

And Camp Cartoon Network is more American, or Looney Toons National Park? Have you ever heard of Batman in your life? Where do you live? Oh, you live in AMERICA. I didn't know Gotham City setting was in China. It looks a whole lot more like New York to me.

Why do we have BTR and SUF at Six Flags Great America then if they are not AMERICAN?

I'm bot talking about the ride itself. Im talking abotu the area. The Park is based on American History which you should already know. The kiddie areas are in Yukon Territory. So technically the kiddie areas arent their own areas.

It would just be a greater area of the park if it was that name. They have the music playing, the car, and the ride. I think the real reason why they didn't want to make it Gotham City is because they would have to change too many things such as the boat ride and the swings to fit the area. $$$

If the reason why people come to SFGAm for a history lesson, they might as well call it a museum instead of an amusement park. They could make Mardi Gras a little more historic by having drunks dancing in the street and have flashers all over the place. It just wouldn't make sense to go over-board with only history. It's about America.

Anyway for you guys criticizing my idea, come up with something that you would think would work for the area, or to help improve the existing area. I'm only the third or fourth person that said what they should do. C'mon, give a little more input.

???? Mr. Freeze is one of the smoothest coasters I have been on ( As long as you keep your head against the head rest otherwise the launch or the transition backwards into the curve from the tower can ring your bell.) I ride it anywhere from 5-10 times in a day at SfSTL.

As for a theme, when Freeze went in SFSTL created DC Comics Plaza. Other than having a cool DC Comics logo in the plaza in front of Freeze, they renamed our scrambler Shazam after some obscure comic hero, and the theming in the area pretty much continues to slide downhill from there.

Be careful what you wish for when corporate wants to change an areas theme based on one or two rides.
It's the most fun in the park when your laughing in the dark.
