Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

This is kind of a stupid question but does anyone know how much Giant Drop Cost? And why does it make that funny noise when it hits the brakes?

The noise is the magnetic brakes slowing down the train.

Timmy, It sounds pricey to me as well, but Drop has to have all of those Rare Earth Magnets, and those aren't exactly cheap. Also its assembley looks to be more complex than that of a coaster.

Noise is the brakes, but as for cost, I dont know the exact cost fbut for some form of reference, Intamin quoted around 12 millionfor the 390 foot giant drop in Australia if it was built freestanding instead of attached to Tower Of Terror. Not sure how much it did end up costing them, all I know is I need to ride it someday :)

According to this site: http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/index.asp?id=56294
the drop in austrailia was $7.4 million. I don't know where you got $12 million from. I know giant drop did not cost more than $7.4 million-I would guess around $5 million.

The ride, which is as tall as a 30-storey building, opened on December 26, 1998, and cost AU$12 million (£4.5 million or US7.4 million).

He probably got it from the cost in AU currency.

I found a couple of websites ranging from 12 million to 16 million. Here's one!

Goodness gracious, I rather have a roller coaster than that.

im sure everyone knows you can get a good coaster for the amount of the giant drop but they do not have unlimited room in the park. for the lil amount of park space the giant drop takes it sure gets alot of rides.....
Rode Raging Bull 9 times opening Day, lol to all who were scared of the weather.!.

$12 mil was the price quoted if they had built the giant drop as a freestanding tower instead of tacking it onto Tower of Terror, which they did to save $$$.

Cant say I've ever seen that figure in an article(acutaly I dont think I've ever seen an article on that Giant Drop), either eay, could be true, figures/facts can be distorted over the thousands of miles between here and there.
