After Batman, the picture went out

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby Ilovthevu' on June 5th, 2004, 6:43 pm
It seems that after Batman the Ride was built, every attraction since has not gotten any televisions. You think that Six Flags would profit from certain advertisements on tv such as Triple A and Dannon's Yogurt on the rides. It's not always exciting to stand in an hour and half with nothing to do. Why can't D Vu' have the Am E t.v.'s under the tent and V2 have the Demons? These queues don't seem to need them even if SFGA doesn't want to spend anymore money on them. I think that they stopped putting them because you don't think of the Sothwest Territory as being "active" place. That's the reason for the speakers and "country" music on RB. Really how much does a t.v. cost? Not only that, but it seems that the whole chain is canceling the idea of television in there parks. Do you know of any place that continues to add tvs after they put a new ride in?

Because companys still lease the time, also no one watches them and they are just annoying commercials and music vidoes.

The TV era has ended. And one point every park was adding them like crazy. Now no one adds TV's anymore. I think the reason is the realized that the cost to maintain them was more then the money they were making of the TV Programs. If anyone noticed that the AE tent most of the TV’s have been removed and I think there is one TV that has the news on it now. (CNN)

They may make money off advertising on those TV's must most if not all of that money would go into the maintenance of all those outdoor Televisions, plus they are expensive to start with. I doubt they were/are of much value to the park beyond entertainment. Though it'd be great if they started playing Looney Tunes Cartoons in their entirety again like they used to way back when on whatever TV's still work (not many this year it seems)

I just wished that they had better TV's that are easier to see outside. Everytime I am trying to watch whats on it, I can't see the image, I just hear what is being said.

They have a weatherproof screen over the TV to protect the electronics from rain, wind, snow, etc.. The screen however, absorbs a lot of sun and really makes the screen unviewable. But there is nothing else that really can be done. They could remove the screen but then they might just as well remove the TV's.

Well, you have to think about the amount of wires that have to get buried, programming created, and general upkeep. It used to be a novelty, but it isnt anymore.

Yeah, if you ask me it was kind of a park fad. Everyone installed them and people watched them. No one really cares anymore its just another TV. In this case very annoying TVs that play the same things over and over.

Yes they are right. The park is more looking forward to theming instead of television.

I hate having tvs. They play the crappiest music videos EVER. I think we should make like magic mountain and build really cool queues with techno playing really loud. They played insomnia, sandstorm, and some songs from fright fest's helevator in line 4 scream.

Not everyone likes techno (myself included) When say a family comes, and a father and his son get in line for a coaster, they arent going to want techno blasting in their ears. And to deture the fact that techno wont work, id doesnt fit to any of the themed areas in the park.

I was thinking about this two days ago. No one watches them, but if they had something good on people would watch them. If they got rid of them that would be cool too.

It depends how old the kid is. Alot of younger kids like techno, or at least thats how i was when i was a little kid. If they had any music, it would have to not have words probably, because someone would come up with a reason to sue the park for the words in the song.

So my opinion is keep the tv's in line for the rides that already have them, and put good music in line for the rides that dont.

Has anyone ever read the book "Utopia"? It's a thriller that takes place in the world most advanced theme-park (Utopia, a work of fiction, obviously). However, one of the cool ideas that the author came up with is that in Utopia all the que lines a subliminal themeing could make you know what to expect. Therefore, if the ride was scary, the que would be haunting with rumbling bass, etc. This is kind of a cool idea beacuse it would scare away people who really don't like the intense rides, without them having to go on a ride and hating it.

Basically, the "pre-show" areas are used to set up the theme of the ride and give an indication as to what the ride is like, more so than in most parks now.

What would be good to put on the tvs? Clips of movies, a WB show?

I think that Cedar Point has the right idea. Big fans with water squirting into the queue lines, thats what I want to see. Millenium Force had a DJ stand, and if my memory serves, so did mantis. You could ask the DJ to play any song, so techno or whatever else, it all goes. But yeah, the Tv's are a bit of a waste, i say trade them in for big water squirting fans.

Raptor, MF, and Magnum have the DJ booths, and Mantis has a recording about the history of Cedar Point I believe. Yeah, I like how they have those mist fans, more parks should do that.

The problems with the TV's are that they have to pay for the network through the cable company which is aloy of $$$.

Are you sure about that? The TV's do not show any network TV channel. Six Flags has recodings that they play. Why would they need to pay the cable company?

I still love watching the Looney Toons cartoons while waiting in line.. I remember that from when I was younger. My parents ALWAYS knew when I wanted to go to GA because at home I would turn on Looney Toons :D Luckily I was a spoiled little girl because my dad would take us literally every other weekend to the park. HHMMM.. lets see where my addiction started.
