Has Great America been flooded??

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

I forgot to mention that Grand Ave. is also protected by a decent sized wall of sand bags. (This is a report from my friend and from what was availible in a newspaper pic.) ABC 7 said that Thursday would be mostly sunny and showers on Friday.

There's a photo showing how close the flooding is to SFGAm.

That pic puts it all into perspective. The flooding is very close, but it doesn't look as if it will effect SFGAm. (luckily)

::UPDATE:: The predicted crest will happen tonight and it will now be only 12 feet instead of 18.

The crest was never expected to be 18 feet, it was expect to be about 12 1/2.

I heard that it wont even reach 12 feet, and thankfully they built the park far enough from the river, anyways it will most likely go down from tonight.

And you have to remember that because that swamp was there before 1976, it would take care of a lot of the floodwaters. So the park, with its rather large paved areas, has taken away that natural water retention feature. So where does all that water go?

Downhill, right into the river. There is a pond that the park owns for SOME stormwater runoff, but not all of it.

Some more bad news out of Gurnee.

That pic that Coasterdude316 linked to is the exact spot where 2 kids in an inner-tube are now missing and a search is underway.

Pray for them.

This is very sad and I hope that they are found, but I would like to add where were the parents on this one? I mean what did the kid say "Mom I'm taking the inner tube for a ride down the river?" Don't get me wrong I think this is horrible but it's another one of those things that could've been easily prevented if the parents asked Who? What? Where? When?, 5 simple 1 word questions that can solve millions of problems.

I will be sure to pray for them. That's Washington St. and I drive right by there a lot. What's amazing is that there is a bike path that goes under the bridge alongside the river.

^Oh thats good. I agree with what ...Mowns said about the parents asking questions. I feel really bad for starting this topic now. I'm worried about the park when people lives and homes are being lost...

I'm sorry if I'm offending anyone on these boards...

but I don't think you have to worry about it. People are like "let's lend a hand" and I just want to know how you're going to "lend a hand"

No need to feel bad highroller.

This is a site about SFGAm so naturally the topic will come up about natural distasters near the park.

The good news is that only 8 families had to be evacuated from their homes. The rest prepared for the worst and sandbagged around their properties.

The 2 kids missing is a sad situation though. Hopefully some good news will come from that in the end.

Update.

The 2 kids appeared to have pulled themselves to safety somewhere south of where they were missing.

In regards to the flood relief effort, a local Chicago radio station had a story about the park(SFGAm) generously donating food to the volunteers/workers at Warren Township High School.
It's good to see that the pair in the inner-tube have gone to safety.

Unless your driving through flooded neighboorhoods then you should be fine. Rt. 21 was reopened and the water level is falling. I had no problems today at all.
