I want the Haybaler back! I loved that ride. Why couldn't they just move it, it could fit in so many places with different themeing. They could have kept it under DeJa, and called it Dejaybaler. Does anybody know where it is now, has it been destroyed?? Does anybody else love that ride as I do?
It was destroyed when it was torn out and sold for scrap around the same time as SkyWhirl. It was a very high maintaince ride and due to it's age the state mandated it needed frequent X-ray testing which woudl have cost way to much for a ride that (mosly due to it's location) rarely had a line. Also SF wanted locking lapbars, and that was another cost the park didnt want to have to spend.
On the plus side, you can find similar rides at most carnivals, basically same ride, just made by Chance or Mack, also IB has Alpine Bob's. If you want to ride an exact clone there is a Jhle Brothers Matterhorn at Lakeside in Denver, that is the only other one I've seen.
And if you know how to ride the Chance Models (Thunderbolt or Apline Bobs are the stock names), it can be quite a bit more thrilling then Haybaler, just ask Scott(Evod')

I'm not too sure how right I am but I believe X-raying of rides is kinda like a regular X-Ray.. sans the Doctor and big room and lead cover. But I think what the state wanted them to do if they wanted X-rays like FParker185 said is when they would take X-Rays of the rides structural parts to check for any fractions in the structure or moving parts of the ride to maintain that they are safe. Just a shot in the dark but thats what I think the x-rays are.
I heard there was a ride like Haybaler in Cedar Point.
Besides, it would be wise to sell the old stuff for scrap now that we're in a steel crisis. That's where Shockwave is going (sorry fans). The same fate happened to a piece of post-WWII memorabilia which was just demolished yesterday in Gary, IN.
I found most of the skywhirl cages in the park's junkyard, if not all. Now they can do the same to Power Dive.
X-ray is a form of NDT testing to find hidden structural cracks that can not normally be seen, these days that's usually done with ultrasound or dye penetrant.
Cedar Point has a Chance Alpine Bobs across from the scrambler/Iron Dragon.
Haybaler was a Jhle Brothers Matterhorn, the company has long since gone out of business, the rights to some of their rides were bought up by Mack which continued part of their catalog though the Matterhorn was heavily modifyed, especially the drive system. I think Mack calls the current model Swing Bob, but most operating models go by the name of Schlittenfhart and Sleighride. More info at:
I've taken a look at the Swing Bob model on the website and it said it could even be trailer mounted. This ride could have been hauled to some farm in Wisconsin open to the general public or even moved to the Dells. I'm sure this ride was scrapped long before the steel crisis. Just my point of view.
well, ours was ground mount, so SFGAM bascially cut it off the ground(effectively rendering the ride totaled) then just broke up the foundation with what ever was left behind of the ride. That was the nice thing about Jhle at the time, they manufactured that ride as a ground mount whereas all other models at the time were trailer mounted only.
Also I'm thinking SFGAm picked up Haybaler used, as I'm pretty sure Jhle was long gone by the late 70's. Cajun Cliffhanger came from Riverview Park, maybe Haybaler did also (though I have no idea)
