Has Great America been flooded??

On the news it said the flood are from Milwalkie to Grand Ave. That means Great America must have been in the line of fire. I feel bad for all the people in gurnee and other local areas. Anybody have any info on this?

I have to admit this shocked me. When the Des Plaines River crests, it's going to be even worse than it is now. Is the park even going to be open today? If it's underwater I doubt it, but man I don't want to even think about the damages that could impend further operating days...
The parks designed well enough it's not gonna flood. Theres drains everywhere. The only spot where there might be a little pond is in front of the stairs on Demon cause it all gathers there and doesn't squegee away like the rest of the park does.
There has been so much rain, I think it might be tapering off thought with only Tuesday and Thursday calling for rain. This weekend has had some strong showers. I do not think that Great America would close today though.

Papas, drains have nothing to do with what floods. If the water level raises enough then the drains will eventually get flooded. Don't you think the neighboorhoods we've been seeing on the news have storm drains? Anyways-I think that Great America is fine as there has been nothing announced about closings.
Except the Schools.  Glad to hear the park is still open today and it is doing fine.

I have a buddy who lives in that neighborhood. Thank you. {quietly} It's stood long before the park was built.
The park is open today, but I haven't a clue about the attendance. Routes 132 and 41 could be blocked off all week. The town of Des Plaines lost its share of luck, too.
I heard the exit ramp onto Grand Ave. was closed today. Also if you havent noticed,its hard to see, but they did build the park in that position because it is higher than the rest of the area. (I think) Also, the park will remain open do to the fact that it was today. Does anyone know if the river has had its crest yet?
Sorry About the double post but I just heard from the news that it should crest Wed. Morning or later that day. It will be nearly 6 FEET about flood stage!!

Current stage- 7 feet above flood. Looks to crest around 5-26 at noon at 12 feet above!
I live about 10 minutes from the park. We have seen LOTS of rain and as most people know, a tornado warning (which was just a bunch of colorful clouds around here).
Anyways, I can assure you that Six Flags wasn't harmed. They had flood watches but it hasn't rained a drop today and I can already tell that retention ponds, etc. are dropping rather quickly to their normal levels.
I hope that the flooding is over by the time I come up there...only two more weeks...
If the area is still flooded I will have to cancel...

More rain in the area isn't what is causing the flooding from the Des Plaines river. It is the surge from Wisconsin that is moving south from all the rain up there.
Basically, it could stay clear and sunny for the next week but the river will continue to rise. The park is dangerously close to the flooded area from the employee entrance. Rte 132 (Grand Ave) and Rte 21(Milwaukee) are currently under water which is only blocks from the employee entrance. I have a feeling that employees might be having to enter the park from the main Grand Ave. entrance in the next couple of days if they aren't already. I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.
Technically SFGAm is built in a swamp, but there is a system of pumps under the park to keep the place dry, without them the entire park would look similar to the pond under Eagle's Barrel, I'd assume those pumps could deal with the river in small doses and I bet SFGAm has plenty of sand bags ready to be deployed if need be.
Also if SFGAm had flooded already, the news outlets would make no mention at all of gurnee and focus on just the park instead and we would have seen areials of a flooded SFGAm by now  Favorite Wood Coasters: The Voyage, Ravine Flyer II, Thunderhead, Balder

man I hope the flood waters die down...but with more rain coming...I doubt it.

I've hear they have started deploying sandbags extending from SUF to nIW or close to AE. Also FParker has a point, if the park was to begin to flood it would be ALL OVER the media as we speak.
So I am right in thinking that the Grand Ave. is closed off? That sucks if it does flood though because I was hoping to go this weekend possibly just for the hell of it. How does it look for next Friday though?
