Wild Mouse may equal the demise of Whizzer?

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Whizzer is just so one of a kind. You can't find anything like it around anywhere. And I'm not talking about "It's the only Swartzenkopf spiral lift left on this continent!." I'm talking about it's layout and speed and seating. The layout is so big and fast for a "family" coaster. You probably can't find a first drop like Whizzer has either, it's nice and easy, yet fast at the same time. I love that coaster.

Oh man this thread is so old school. Let's keep it going until they do remove Whizzer.

Oh and for the record, I absolutely LOVE Whizzer. Fantastic night ride too. Well deserving of the ACE plaque it received a few years back.

I went to IOA in August. I dropped the cash for a 5-day pass, about $85. I spent 4 days at the park. I spent about $10 in those 4 days, with the exception of about $20 for the sprayers on Dudley (I was lethal with those babies).

That's $30 in 4 days. Not even $10 a day. I am also in the majority when it comes to enthusiasts. We are actually a DRAIN on the resources of any given park. What they do for us is a service. They basically sell us things at a near-loss for the word of mouth and good publicity.

I calculated it in a different posts, and figured that the average family probably spends more in one visit than any 5 of us here.

So, they will try and make themselves appealing to the families and non-enthusiasts, because that's where the money is, and right now Six Flags needs all the cash they can get.

Most people "1st roller coster ever" story is the Whizzer. I know mine is.

I remeber hearing on the news that they were closing it down. That day I called the park and requested them not to. They told me they where getting many calls with the same complaint. What is it about this roller coster that cause many people to call the park? I will tell you:

- It brings back memories. I, to this day, every time I go to the park Whizzer is the 1st ride I go on. If you go to the park with me or any of my family members you are going on Whizzer 1st! It's been like that in my family since 1976.

- Its a great ride to get you in he "mood" of the thrill of the whole day. it helps me get my sea legs.

- Kids can rid it in the comfort of there parents lap. That how my parents talked me in to getting on that ride at age 5.

- Great date ride 8)

- That banked turn across the ground with leaves at arms reach.... well that just damn FUN!

- The thought that the train might fall in the water... Fun too!

If you don't agree with me, well most likley Whizzer was not your 1st roller coster experiance. You have never had your girlfiend between you legs gripping on tight  . You have it set in your mind not to like the ride and nothing will change that. Please do however look at it the way that most people look at this ride. We love it and we want it to STAY for future generations to enjoy!

I think getting a plaque from an entity that actually commands respect, or at least recognition, is a bit more meaningful.

Well considering the majority of the other coasters to receive ACE plaques are ACE coaster classics, it really means a lot for a family coaster of this sort to receive such an honor.

I give my car the Scott Schaffer plaque and it's most likely better than your car.

As far as first coasters go, mine was Junior Gemini... then Rolling Thunder...then Viper, then Iron Wolf... I don't even remember when I first rode Whizzer to be honest. Nonetheless it is one of those rides many hold dearly to their heart so let us hope we never see it depart.

Does it really matter what some group of enthusists think about a coaster? Hell no. And Scott grow up with the "My insert whatever here.... is probably better then yours crap." That ended in 3rd grade. No normal person gives a crap about what some group of enthusists think. At least this normal person thinks so.... I ride a coaster because I like the elements of the ride. not because some guy whose got nothing better to do with his life besides ride rollercoasters says so..

Hey I could honestly care less what enthusiast groups think, too. It's just an honorary mention, that's all. All those Golden Ticket top ten coaster awards are so dumb... it's all opinion. In my opinion, Superman: Ride of Steel at SFNE is the best steel and Thunderhead the best wood. I don't care if the coaster enthusiast groups agree or disagree... because these will always be my favorite. And are YOU telling ME to grow up? Have a sense of humor, my god. How old are you?

The whizzer has been the first coaster I have invested in in my life, and when I first went on it, I was a nervous wreck. I thought it was going to be a gentle coaster but with all the tight right turns I was half wrong. Now when I ride it today I feel laid back and relaxed.

This is the only coaster of this kind left in the U.S. Before, the Zambezi Zinger, a coaster of this type, resided in Kansas City's Worlds of Fun. But then it got moved overseas. Sure this is a unique coaster but coasters can't last forever, no matter how much you like them.

Does it really matter? Everyone is entitled to their own opinons. Brad loves Demon, Scott loves S:RoS I love all the coasters who cares. We all have different reasons for liking or disliking things. Thats what makes us all different.
