When Is Media Day At Sfgam???

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby sixflagsguy5 on April 23rd, 2004, 6:24 pm
I know this is already in some other forum thing, but when is media day for sfgam. And who is allowed to go. Is it just to take pictures, like the news and newspapers, or is it riding the rides for only media. Or is it for anyone who wants to go and people can take pictures???

It's for media thats invited by the park, so they can go and film and ride the new attraction and put it on (news, etc). It's called publicity.

The date depends on when they finish the area. GAm is very strict on who goes.

Damn Kyle.

You mean if I flash an ACE card, they won't let me in ? This is a travesty. :)

Hey this isnt any Cali park .

On a more serious note it makes more sense to restrict regular ACErs from going because they know more about the rides than is healthy (or so they think, but you get the idea), and the regional ones around here would be attenting opening day and other dates regardless so letting them go just to ride would be pointless.

I take it you guys are not fond of ACE? Did you have a bad experience with them or some people in the club? Just wondering cause I do see some ACE bashing on these forums from time to time.
Waiting to fill this space with something stupid to say!

I don't mind the orginazation (although the preservation crap, if I was GM of a park I sure as hell wouldnt want to put up with that, lol). There are a lot of awesome ACErs I get along with and there are also many I don't.

I haven't met any, but i've seen them around sfgam sometimes. Also I think ace is kinda dumb cause it cost 50 Bucks just to be a "member."

Every ACEr that I've talked to at the park was VERY snotty twords the ride ops and twords other non ACErs. The saying 'A few bad apples ruins the whole bunch' works perfectly in this situation. A few snotty members has changed my opinion on the whole orginisation.

I am an ACE Member and have been to ACE Events, and I tell you ACE hosts the best events. The $50 a year membership fee is not that much for what you get. You get a Bi-Monthly Newsletter and also a Quarterly Magazine with tons of photos. That’s just of start of it also you get Discounts such as 50% off Admission at all Paramount Parks in the US. Also, don’t forget the ACE events, which you get to go at the member rate if you are an ACE member.

I know that there are some not so nice people that are part of ACE but those are only few and far between. Most of them are very nice.

I thought that everyone can go on Media Day. Or is Media Day just for those who have Season passes? Can anyone go on Media Day?

Media Day is when members of the media (i.e. - newspapers, TV stations, unofficial websites, radio stations) can go to the park to do news stories on the park. It's usually held 1-2 weeks before the official opening day, which helps Great America in promoting the park. An example news story would be the opening of Superman last year, and Mardi Gras this year.

I believe you need to be invited to Media Day by Six Flags, but if you have a good, busy unofficial website, like this one, it wouldn't hurt to show them and see what they think. They just might invite you!

Yes, I do Thrillnetwork as well, and Dave will come too, as of right now GAm doesn't know the day because they don't know when the rides/area will be finished.

Most local stations cover it, when I went last year, they had Mike Barz and Paul Conrad from WGN dressed up as superhero's running around, it was quite funny.

And it is by invite only, many people try to get invited few do. And they do have nice security people at the gates as well :)

Anyway, if there's a new attraction that's opening up, Media Day is usually a couple days before it opens. If there's not, usually a couple days before opening.
