Idea for Great America Operation

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby SFGAMkid on April 16th, 2004, 2:34 pm
This is somewhat an opinion, but has Great America ever tried to do some sort of a soft park opening during Spring Break? I know it's difficult with school districts and all starting and ending at different times, but if they chose the week were most schools were out, would this bring in some extra money?

There too, it could even be for season pass holders. Didn't they use to do something for Pass Holders like the weekend before the park opened to the public?

That also brings me to this question: Why don't they go back to opening the last weekend in April? Was it a money thing?

Im almost positive its all due to not having enough employee's, which is the same reason they are not open much in september, and why the park is generally busy as can be in october.

Since they hire almost all college/older highschool kids, they can not open until the school year is done. And when school starts back up, no one is left to run the rides, hence why if you go during october its generally 2 train operation on most the coasters and many of the flat rides are closed!

They do have soft openings in April. However, they are for private buyouts.

I will be at the park on Saturday, April 24th.

I believe the park is also operating this weekend for private buyouts.

Yeah, they have buy outs, but that's not what I was referring to.

You have to be somewhat "functioned" to the people who buy out the park. They are the ones with the tickets and all. Nobody can just enter the park as they please.

I'm talking about for people/gp sort of thing (Regular Operation). But then mallclerks had a good point about the whole age range of people hired.

Once again, I was referring to some type of Spring Break operation. Not buy outs or opening day. I then realized that it probably wouldn't work becuase of the whole staff issue as I said before.

Geez, how desprate are you to Go to GA? The Park opens on May 1st, end of story. If you HAVE to ride a coaster, do what i did, Go to St. Louis or Kings Island, then you wont have anything to worry about.

I think the weather takes a huge role in not opening sooner. Today the high is 50 tomorrow its 75, the next day it's in the 40's. Gotta love the weather here.

It's true that hardly anyone can make the trips you made. Not everyone has the time, money, or opportunity. I am working on saving up just for a trip to St. Louis. That's going to cost me a lot even with my Season Pass.

And dont blame the fact that you cant go on your parents being lazy. It's hard to go to work every day of the week, and then have to deal with kids who never think they have enough. Appreciate the fact that you can go to A park.
you can't believe it - you didn't mean it
but they saw you do it and they know your name

The park doesn't open sooner because of the buyouts.

If they had no buyouts, the park would probably open to the public mid to late April.
