Ride Seat Belts This Season

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby maneuverman on April 9th, 2004, 12:51 am
I just read that there is going to be seat belts installed on rides that dont have them. Does anyone know which ones? Is it even true? I can say one ride that should have them is superman. One can only imagine what could happen if the chest restraints failed on that.

Superman's not getting seatbelts, and don't worry about your restraints...they aren't going to fail.

I think Supermans restraints are safe, they are made by the geniuses of B & M. Don't worry.

I heard somewhere that Eagle is getting some seatbelts.

I can see Viper and Eagle getting belts. Superman's restraints won't fail. They connect at both the top (where it pivots) and to each of the arm rests. And if they did, you'd dangle from your legs

I was about to suggest that maybe Raging Bull would get them, Nitro-style... then I found the picture I was looking for, and realized that retrofitting them might be hard...

To bad the ride would be unable to perform any elements, or be more than 10 feet talll seeing as the tremendous forces on your brain would literally cause it to explode.

Eeeek imagine going through the pretzel loop dangling from your legs, ouch.

When I was at SFOG on March 6th, Georgia Cyclone and Great American Scream Machine both had newly installed seatbelts.
Add that to PKI's Racer and Beast getting seatbelts as well, I pretty much figured that we'd see them on Viper and American Eagle.

But don't worry. If they are the same type used at SFOG, you won't even know they are there.
Finally Coaster Season!!

With all of the alleged incidents of lap bars flying up that many people have reported, I guess it's a good idea to play it safe. One thing that some of you may be too young to remember is that AE had seatbelts at one time. I'm unsure of the exact years and when they were initially removed, but I know that at one point during the 80s they were there. I talked with an older friend of mine and he confirmed that as well. I'm kind of curious as to why they ever bothered taking them out. I don't really think that they do a great deal, because riders can loosen and or remove them once they leave the station, but it's not a bad idea to have them there nonetheless.
I'm gonna twist ya, and I'm gonna flip ya. Every time you squeal, I'm just gonna go faster and harder.

Not that I am scared of the harness malfunctioning but it would make me feel a whole lot safer.

Not going to happen. Nitro doesn't have them anymore. They didn't last more than one full year. They were a major inconvinience and I heard reports of them scratching people's legs.

Wrong.

While the Eagle did indeed have seatbelts, they also had the 1 across ratcheting lap bar (the type that doesn't touch your lap). Also, the seatbelts that Eagle had were also 1 across.

When they changed the trains on Eagle to individual lap bars, the seatbelts were removed. That is when they also added the seat dividers.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.
