Great America's Borders

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

So I realize that the highway and Washington St. are borders, but what about the other sides? Could they build by that pond by Superman?

^ The 5 borders are Washington St., I 90, parking lot, Houses, and the employee parking lot. We could always pull a Disney and buy out all the houses and expand that way. Same with the houses behind the parking lot, and cut out some parking lot.

I wouldn't be so sure that the park could just do that as easily as you seem to think they could. First, (unless they pulled some sort of shady deal with Gurnee) they wouldn't have any sort of eminent domain rights, so they'd have to convince people to sell (and once people figured out what was going on, they could probably raise their asking prices way beyond what the park would want to pay). Second, I assume Gurnee would have to approve the change in zoning, and who knows how that would go?

Even just expanding into any more of the parking lot could potentially be a problem, because I assume there are mandated buffer zones between the rides and the subdivisions, so I wouldn't assume that the park can just build on any land that they own.

You're welcome

Property line is in yellow. The red and orange area by the employee parking lot I am not sure of. I would guess they own that, but I can't tell for sure.

Yea there is a water pump there but I still think Six Flags owns the land. If I am not mistaken when Sharprio took over he tired to sell that piece of land. I do not think it was ever sold but I remember them stating that there was a small piece of land they were trying sell on Milwaukee.

Just did a quick Google search and according to Six Flags Annual Report there is "approximately 30
acres of potentially developable land" So I believe that red area is what they are talking about.

Whenever I walk off Superman in the exit line, I always look at that pond and question the possibilities if there were any. I'm not so sure :P

I would love for them to construct a parking structure and use one of the parking lots as future expansion area.... A guy can dream right?

What would the customer do on a busy day, like in the middle of July or end the end of the season when it gets super packed for Frightfest? Would there still be sufficient spaces to park in? Unless you're talking about a lot that is rarely ever used? I think we're all dreaming here haha.

There was talk back in the day of expanding to the western side of I-94, when it was just open land. It would have been the water park. Now that there is an industrial park there, and the water park is in place where it is, I doubt we will see any meaningful border expansions.

I would expect the current trend to continue and they replace, rather than expand. (Sky Whirl, County Fair Carousel, Shockwave, Theater Royale, Raceway Splash, Iron Wolf, Bugs Bunny Land, etc).

Loggers Run, Yankee Clipper, Pictorium, Southwest Amphitheater, and Buccaneer Battle all feel like they are ready to be replaced.

Yep, the park owned all that land, besides the water park the park was also going to build a hotel and convention center. In the end though no one wanted to pay to widen Washington street, so the park sold the land.

It would be interesting to see what roller coaster(s) and rides we would have gotten and what the area would have been if Hurricane Harbor wouldn't have been built where it is and the original plan would have worked out.

You can keep dreaming. Rain water drains into that area.
