They used to just announce at pretty much any random time late in the season or in the off-season, but the last few years all the Six Flags have had the one big date in August. In theory they COULD get the variance after an announcement, but it probably would be very frowned upon by the village - it's kinda arrogant to announce something and just assume it's going to be approved, and it would really had the Village a lot of power to get the park to do things they didn't want to do. You could also run into a problem like Six Flags New England did with their The Dark Knight coaster, where they started building before all the permits were received, and then had a lot of problems with approval and the ride ended up getting canceled.
Its been a loooong time since Ive responded on here. haha. Ive read through quite a bit of this forum and here are my thoughts:
Whatever is coming more than likely wont be a major coaster. As of right now, the park doesn't have any huge plots of land freed up. If they were planning on removing something, signs would have already been posted about getting your last ride in on blank before this date etc, etc. Not to mention, we have gotten 2 major coasters in the last 3 years. Also, when did construction start on both of those projects? Mid July to early August if im not mistaken, and there is nothing going on yet at the park.
Skyscreamer is not happening. Has anybody been paying attention to all of the problems various parks have had with those things? Not just SF but other parks as well? Six Flags is done with skyscreamers.
Waterpark expansion: Not likely. Althought the park will be celebrating its 10 year anniversary, there is nowhere for HH to expand at this point. And they aren't going to tear out viper or anything like that for an expansion. Will they acknowledge the 10 year anniversary? sure maybe with promotions, but I doubt we will see anything here. Not to mention, HH just gained a huge expansion in 2011. t As for whatever is coming: Im fairly convinced that if an attraction does leave, it will be something that isn't very popular. That's if something leaves. Maybe the pictorium, or SWA, etc. I think we will see a flat ride of some sort.

I'd love to see you list a single problem any park has had with a Skyscreamer. Yes, Cedar Fair had some issues with their Windseeker rides, but that's an entirely different ride (and even they installed one of their original ones at a different park this year, so clearly they're ok with the ride). Six Flags has built 8 of them in the past three years, I have to think that's one of their biggest ride rollouts ever. We're not getting one for 2015, we know that, but I certainly don't think it's out of the question for the future.

I do agree that we probably won't see a Waterpark expansion for next year (and I don't really know that it really needs one), but you say there's no room, and then in the next paragraph you mention something they could remove to add room: The Pictorium. I also wonder if they could get a bit more space if they re-aligned Six Flags Drive near they helix of the Eagle.
Yeah, Funtime Star Flyers while they do tend to go down occasionally and leave people stuck up high, it's usually for very short, non news-worthy times, pretty much like any other ride. I think SF will continue to install them.

However of course SFGAm nor any park is going to pick up a coaster of failed design from an out of business company. Though if they want the prototype at Fun Spot (IN) is up for sale, even comes with what's left of the elevator that was never installed at Fun Spot.

The only major problem SF has had with a Sky Screamer was in 2011, and it happened when the park was closed. And obviously that problem didn't affect their love for them, considering they have opened at least one every year since 2011. So there's really no evidence to say that SF is done with them.

I really wouldn't mind a simple boomerang type coaster, or a SLC with face-off type seats

I haven't heard of any issues with them. Same can't be said for Cedar Fair's "World's tallest bumper cars".

We don't need another inverted coaster at the park, much less a model that is universally regarded as almost inevitably painful and an experience that is not in the slightest worthwhile.

Ok. If SLC's are that bad then I don't think one should be built.
A giant whirlygig hope not our park deserves better or a defunct coaster design thats one of the worst. It could be a family S&S 4D. The clue did ask which direction or path you will choose demon to the right swat middle aunt marthas and pictorium to the left multidirectional ride 4D just a guess. Then again it could just be another show yay.
The two WORST coasters I have ever ridden are MindEraser at SFNE & the Serial Thriller at Elitch's. Both SLCs. I think I got a headache just thinkin about them...
I understand what you're all sayin about HH but a new slide isn't that far off of an idea. The park is always talkin about balance & a new slide would do just that. Yes, there's no room just lookin at the park but here's my 2 cents - Back in 2010, they were willing to take out X amount of parking spaces to put in "Chang". & if Goliath wasn't here, would you have ever thought that the worlds tallest, fastest & steepest wooden coaster would fit on that narrow plot of land? No. So who knows, they could cram a new complex/tower/attraction along the parking lot taking out as minimal spots as possible. At some point, whether it be 2015 or 2021, that will prob have to/will happen.

Also, I hate to be a backseat mod, but please don't quote the post above you. It's not necessary.
Alright I won't quote any posts above mine anymore, even thought other users do it. I really didn't quote the post above me because there was a post between ours.

I've ridden multiple with kings islands invertigo the one coming into my mind.
I didn't realize any pain. (Except for the sweat a dude left in my seat. Puddles are not cool). One could possibly fit in ragin Cajuns spot with a little cramming.
I personally like them. But I differ from a lot of people. Also considering I don't mind flash pass
I wouldn't be surprised if we get a SkyScreamer, only because Six Flags seems to be making them staples at all of their parks anymore. But if we get one, it probably won't get as high as the ones at the other parks.
We just got Goliath, so whatever new ride we get for next year probably won't be a rollercoaster. However, I'm dying for American Eagle to get SOME sort of refurbishment.
Seeing As How American Eagle Has Some Of The Best Airtime In The Park It Would Make Sense To Give It The RMC Treatment To The Track, Remove Trims. Sure It Wont Be The Same Thing It Was 30 Years Ago But I Think I'd Rather See This Than A Skyscreamer

If they were to rmc it, they'd probably only I-box cause I can't imagine the board letting them do all that construction that close to Washington street (particularly the red side) if they were to do the complete overhaul, and that would gives us 2 RMCs within like 50 feet of eachother and leave the park with only one true woodie
