Official Goliath Thread

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Having seat belts on the ride WILL NOT effect the ride in any way. Stop worrying about it. If Goliath has seat belts, it has seat belts and there is nothing we can do about it.

I rode Outlaw Run for the first time about a week ago and the seat belts didn't affect the ride experience for me at all. Of course, I never rode it without the seat belts but I still got more airtime on Outlaw Run with seat belts than any other coaster I've ever been on. The only thing the seat belts would do is slow the dispatch time down.

Outlaw Run's dispatch times were among the slowest I've ever seen because they made everyone buckle their seat belts and they went and checked every one. Then they told everyone to push down their lap bars and checked all of them separately from the seat belts. I'm sure SF's crews would be much faster for a few reasons. One, if Goliath does have seat belts, they'll probably check the belts and the lap bars at the same time and not separately. Two, SF's crews are much younger so they're probably swifter on their feet. Everyone working at Outlaw Run the 2 days I went were in their 50's and 60's and didn't move fast at all. Not bashing SDC in any way though. I know they're more safety cautious than most parks out there and I applaud them for that.

I guess my point is that seat belts shouldn't affect Goliath one bit if the ride does have them.

(Oh, and happy Opening Day! Go Cubbies!)

We will find out if Goliath has seat belts when the trains arrive at the park which should be coming up very soon.

Since the lift hill is on site, we should see it going up in a few weeks or less, right?
RMC might even have it started by the end of the week.

Yes, lift pieces are on site. And I think there are some pieces ready for installation! I want to upload a picture, but it says it's too big. >:( Just go to the construction cam, and look between the overbank and airtime hill.

Before any of the lift hill goes vertical (like the steel beam part), I'd guess they'd finish off the dive loop first and get that out of the way. That seems to make the most sense. However, they know what they're doing

That would seem logical. But the Zero-G Stall could go either way. If they do the inversion first, then the lift would have to deal with something under it. If they did the lift first, then the inversion would have to deal with 165 feet of steel above it.

I really hope SFGAm posts pictures on Facebook of Goliath! They seem to post pictures only once a month.

^ They were posting stuff pretty regularly in February and early March. Recently though, nothing outside of the Insider videos. With the weather yesterday, I had high hopes for a Facebook album :(

Don't worry, we got a lot of nice weather days coming up. They will post more photos when there is something to show.

^ When there's something to show? How about a Dive Loop, or an finished overbanked turnaround. Both of which we still haven't gotten good photos of.

When the park has the time to show us, then they will show us some new photos and maybe another video or two.
It is about one month away from opening day, they got much work to do to get the park ready for May 3rd.

They're having a construction tour of Goliath this Saturday which could take over an hour. I think they have some time for a few pictures (only would take about ten minutes)

I have been hearing rumors that RMC didn't engineer Goliath very well and the whole ride might need to be rebuilt. They said it might not be ready to ride until the fall!

Is anyone else REALLY bummed about this?

A wrecking ball is on site to demolish the overbank turn and start over. They built it at 118 feet instead of the planned 125 ft.

Also, this is from SFGAm's FB page today...

Anyone notice the date on the phone? April 28th, 1990? It's a special day in the park's (and B&M's) history. ;)

Happy April Fools Day with both of the comments about needing to demolish and rebuild it.

I knew it was a joke. I am well aware that it is 4-1. On a side note, RMC is too good of a coaster builder with some good experienced construction crews to allow such a simple mistake to happen. In the end, the joke was NOT funny.

Isn't that the day that Cedar Fair bought out Six Flags and B&M? Wait, what?

That is the day when Iron Wolf opened at Six Flags Great America. It was the first B&M coaster.

We're all just on a roll of bad jokes today, but I guess that's the point of April Fools. Bad jokes. :) Anyways, it looks like a little more progress was made on the beginning section of the zero-G stall today.

Someone is a party pooper. Does anyone know what they have been doing to the overbank turn the last few days? I keep seeing them lift up giant pieces of wood but I can't actually see where they are going.
