Only 151 more days till opening day Who's going? I was looking on the Six Flags website and I see they removed the opening day on the calender, maybe they will open up sooner or later.
It seems like the other side always wins on American Eagle Also, I've ridden Goliath 23 times in one day. HBU? (Sorry in advance for unnecessary commas and parenthesis every where)

They announced on the last day of the 2013 season that opening day 2014 will be on May 3rd.
Well, I'm not sure what it says on their website but they still have it on their facebook. Quote from Oct. 27th
"The gates have closed at Six Flags Great America for the last time in 2013! Thanks for having fun with us this season, we hope to see you on May 3, 2014 for Opening Day!"

Personally after a couple years of doing this, unless you want to say "I went on opening day" Just skip it. SF always offers the $20 single day tics on opening weekend. That brings in more people and the capacity of each ride will probably suck. Mother's day is the best day to go in the beginning of the season. The line for RB was up to the photo drop.

At this point I pretty much just use opening day to hang out friends and see everything that's new. There's much better days for doing a lot of riding.
I really only go on Opening Day so my friends can take advantage of the cheap tickets and I can activate my pass.

I have always had this sick little fantasy of being the first guest (not media, construction or administration worker) to set my foot in actual park confines not just parking lot or metal detectors or ticket sales. I have also wanted to be the last guest to leave on the last day of fright fest.

Operational Issues has plagued the park for years (and some seasons worse than others). When you add in a $20.14 admission price as an incentive to drive people into the park opening weekend but haven't found a solution for your operational conflicts (and I'm not saying you're going to have everything perfect)....of course there's going to be extremely long lines. People weren't affected by the decreased capacity prior to this because attendance figures weren't abnormal.
This past opening season was exceptionally horrendous and it'd be interesting to see what the preseason buyout groups had to say about it.
I had a really good time this past opening day. I got on Raging Bull with a 45 minutes wait, Demon with a 20 minutes wait, and all the flat rides with minimal waits.
I'll more than likely be there on opening day. I haven't been to the park since 2009 and havn't been to opening day since 2007, so it will be very interesting to walk around and see how the park has changed over the years. Looking forward to trying out X-Flight and just drool over Goliath until it opens.

I'll probably be there, but I agree with most others, it's a day for socializing with friends, not really trying to get any major riding in for the day. I think last year, I even left half way through the day. For me, it's almost a holiday. I can once again participate in this hobby. However, it's been less significant for me in recent years as I may travel to other parks that open earlier than SFGAm.

Do you mean live at the park for the entire season? haha. But no I think most of us feel pretty similar....not to resurrect old threads and old feelings, but I still remember that older couple that always wants to be the last people to ride Raging Bull for the night. Poor people. I will try to make it to opening day, I say that every off season and it usually never happens....it did happen in 2010 though! Maybe my goal will be the first one to get a funnel cake sundae......mmmmm definitely worth the $15

Last year on Opening Day, my friend and I were the first flash pass riders of the season on X-Flight (even with tons of people buying Flash Passes). I'm pretty sure you can be a first of the season if you really gave it an effort (then again, we really weren't rushing to X-Flight anyways, we started on Whizzer and Demon.)
