Fright Fest 2013

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby Mr. D.T. on October 19th, 2013, 5:13 pm
Historically, I've had to deal with a crowd of 49.2k, such as in 2005. Those days are insanity at its worst, but they rack in more money at the park. Those days make you feel like you can't get on any ride, order any food, or even park in the lot! The reason for the lower attendance is the cooler weather.
R.I.P. Splashwater Falls and Space Shuttle America. Deja Vu, enjoy Idaho.

Hear ye, hear ye: "After 45 years, Six Flags has stopped smoking."

A friend and I visited yesterday and we purchased the gold flash pass.....

Is it just me, or have some of the ride crews really just given up on the end of the season?? We went on Whizzer 4 different times over the course of the day and each time they managed to stack all 3 trains on a fairly consistent basis. Bull was at least a little more fluid, but not much....it seemed as if there were some crew members that were moving quickly, but it only takes one to dog it and really slow down the process.

^ Slow crews have been going on all year, and Whizzer is almost always among the worst. Honestly, the only crew that has been good this year is X Flight (most of the time). Whizzer and Bull are slow, and Eagle has tons of issues. I have no opinion of TDK, V2, Superman, or Cajun's crews because I haven't ridden those enough this year.

I went there this past weekend and was questioning some things. Why is the security heavy this year? Especially with the characters walking around? I feel as if there could always be more actors walking the areas at night, and the haunted houses were interesting. The Mausoleum of Terror was probably the best one. The Manslaughter Manor was good too! I found that in a lot of the haunted houses we went through is that we went in MASSIVE groups up to 15. We then caught up to other large groups and were stopped in the haunted houses with the scare actors unable to jump out and get a scare.
I definitely loved the idea of Bermuda Triangle and the actors walking around were great, especially the mermaid creatures. The Abyss was good, and cool to go through, but could have had more actors in it. I loved the idea though! Total Darkness was a good idea but not well executed. It was basically a gift shop crammed with tons of people and it was just weird. Smaller groups would have made it more scary.

^ Security is heavy during Fright Fest because some people respond to being scared by turning around and punching the person who scared them in the face. You also have people who think it's funny or cool to do things like kick the actors when they aren't looking. So the security/escorts are there to make sure no one harms the actors, and to kick them out of the park if they do. On the flip side, they also have to make sure that the actors respond to those situations in appropriate manners. Long story short, they're just there to keep everyone safe.

I do like how security is there to make sure that both actors and guests stay safe. Safety First! However,
I get extremely dissipointed when I walk through a scare zone and I see one or two scare actors just standing there next to security and just talking to each other! SERIOUSLY!?!? DO YOUR JOB ACTORS!!! And this is something I see all the time!!!

I thought talking to security while dressed up as a monster what part of the theme? I mean, that's all they ever do. Seriously, the scare actors are such a joke especially in the past 3 years or so. Necropolis is the worst though, they just don't care at all.

Honestly, Fright Fest is a pretty big joke what with the outrageous crowds, poor ride op performance, nothing really special extra some new signs and some really crappy haunted houses. I want to love fright fest, but I find myself barely even liking it anymore.

I agree that the regular park scare-actors have not been giving it their all. Every single time I walked through any section last Friday, at least one actor was talking to the supervisor.

But I believe that the Necropolis actors have been pretty good throughout this year's Fright Fest, especially the pawn shop dealer. He is in character 24/7, along with the school girl in the beginning, the hair stylist, and the porcelain doll.

I feel like the unexperienced "actors" don't understand the number one rule of not breaking character. Though they may not be on a stage, every night is a performance that should be stuck in the guest's mind even after they leave.

The porcelain doll is in a class all of her own. She sets a great example and standard that unfortunately, the other actors typically fail to live up to.

I found the clowns to be really good this year. I get scared easily which means they are doing their job. I know 3 of them and got chased on Saturday this past weekend. I'm sad FF is almost over but I know next season is gonna be awesome with the addition of Goliath.

Remember, park is open on Thursday 6pm-10pm! Plus ERT on Raging Bull till 11pm! However, considering the crowds from last Thursday, pretty much means ERT on everthing!

Do you guys think it'll be busy tomorrow? Was it busy today? I'd assume it'd be really busy, but I'm not sure because of the weather.

Eh, I thought the actor last year worked better for the character. The slow, creepy movements they did really worked well for the character and reflected how dolls actually move. The actor this year isn't bad, they just play the character in a different way.

I thought the actress that plays the doll is the same one that played her for the last few years?

^ I'm pretty sure it's a different person. What I've seen the doll do this year is very different than what I saw last year.

My friend and I went up for a few hours to walk around and check it out. When we got there they were only letting people park in the back. As far as lines as I saw Superman, Cajun, Batman, V2 and XFlight were full queues not flowing out and Raging Bull was to the Basketball game. The regular Haunted House lines were long as well but unless you had a slash pass you were waiting a good amount of time.

Does anyone know why they have the pirates in Sector 7, and The Grim Hollow and Skull Valley characters in Seven sins? Really ruins the event to have 2/3 of the park with no characters...

I talked to a friend of mine who still works FF (I did it the first year they went "in-house") and she told me that this was done due to a HUGE amount of character injuries. I guess that since it was so crowded, the actors kept getting punched and whatnot. So their logic is that if you move them all into one confined area then there are more eyes on them in a smaller space? That makes sense to me but it still would be weird walking through an area with no characters...

What I don't get is why can't the morons keep their hands and feet to themselves? Just because it's someone in makeup and a costume, the morons feel the need to cause trouble. Too bad the morons can't be weeded out before they enter the park. That kind of behavior just shows they no intellegence. Mama and daddy didn't raise their cute little morons the correct way. I despise people that do that crap.

Does anyone know what happened with the Orbit on Sunday night? It was working during the day, and than later it was all dark? I hope it's not broke again.

What I assume with the characters is that since it was just wall to wall of people, the park felt it was a better idea to move the characters in larger open spaces such as Hometown Square compared to Yankee Harbor. To me, it makes sense. It might not make sense in the theming aspect, but it just seems more practical this way.

My friends and I know quite a bit of the characters and the stories they told us were awful. One of my friends whose a clown said he got his mask ripped off by a 14 year old girl and she was banned from the park for life. Also with the same person, he got his wig ripped off. It's like seriously? During opening day, we heard of some of the Southwest girls getting "felt" up on and security escorted them out of the park for the rest of the season. I can understand if you are walking through the midways and you accidently walk into the scareactors but slugging, kicking, pulling at their wigs and costumes...is really immature.
