New Ride(s) for 2014

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

With regard to the restraints on the "2014 new ride", I hope they use a combination of a lap bar plus a seat belt. I know this sounds absurd, but I appreciate redundant safety features, because as unlikely as a restraint failure is, it's nice when there's a seat belt to keep you in just in case. This adds to the excitement on Raging Bull, but I've always wanted a belt there too.

I'm not sure when they stopped this, but they used to just have a host on the stage and then people could go in front of it and play games. I think the stage would be good for something like that because it's too small to put on a good song and dance show. It could also work well for something like a juggler. But I'm sure they'll just save the money and sent it to the junkyard next year.

This situation is already ridiculously common. You don't really need to hope for it, it's nearly guaranteed.

If you are afraid when a ride has no seatbelt you must be insanely paranoid scared when you are riding in a car since you probably have a 100 million times better chance of having something happen there.

It has nothing to do with the chances. You're right that there's a lot more that can potentially happen in a car than on a coaster, or even on an airplane (also safer than a car). But restraints have nothing to do with the level of chances of something happening — they have to do with what happens if something happens. And if there's any chance of "if," you have to plan for it, or be Action Park and plan for injuries, lawsuits, etc.

Just saw a photo of the train. It's gonna have OTSRs AND seat belts. And ankle guards. Since this ride is built by GCI and GCI has never used OTSRs on their Millennium Flyer trains, this could get interesting. Also cool to see them do their largest and steepest drop ever, and first GCI to use an Iron Horse style track. Cool.

1) This doesn't even really make sense.
2) I hate when the term "Iron Horse" is used. It's overly colloquial for something that isn't that complicated. RMC's name of I-Box is much more straight forward.
3) RMC says that their Topper track is being patented, but there's nothing in the I-Box section. However, I still doubt another company would attempt to replicate it exactly.

Finally, as far as I know, the I-Box system seems to be mostly a conversion technique. Something to retrofit on existing structures, not something to build a new ride with. If you want to build a new ride with the I-Box system, it'd be better as a traditional steel design.

Why the hell would someone make a post like that and pretend they're serious? It's not even trolling, it's just being an idiot. If it's true, fine, we can eat our words later, but I just don't understand posts like that.

If I told you he was behind the RMC photo by Eagle would you believe the post about every restraint known to man being on it?

Only people who are mad are likely the only people who believed it :D

Also for the announcement, it will probably be a press release/preliminary media kit sent to various outlets by the park along with a website update.

I didn't believe it was true. But pulling a prank (posing for the photo) is different from posting something pointless.

-----
"Gurnee Mayor Kristina Kovarik downplayed published comments that had her describing the proposal as a push for a wooden roller coaster with record-breaking speed.

“Those were my guesses. Those were not official statements from Great America,” Kovarik said Thursday, Aug. 22. “I inferred from what I had seen and been told by them that it will be a wooden coaster, (and) I believe it’s going to be a very fast roller coaster.”
----

Wow, look at that! Now there's a sight you don't see often - a politician backtracking!

So now we can't say it's a fact that its a wooden coaster. My guess at this point is a hybrid.

No, it's not. The mayor is pretty clearly just trying to cover herself because she said something she probably shouldn't have. I suppose there's a chance it's some sort of steel/wood hybrid thing, because I doubt the mayor would understand the exact details of what's considered a "wood coaster" and what isn't, but I'd be shocked if what she said originally didn't basically turn out to be correct.
