Watching the 2nd video again, I just seems like they are going to do 2 projects for next year. I see the Skyscreamer shapes, but than it morphs into the cowboy hat on the top right, and what I originally thought was a Condor shape, but it's the eagle symbol, and it's in the middle of "mushroom". When it morphs - meaning becoming darker, they show both the cowboy hat, and eagle at the same time. Originally, I couldn't figure out what that Eagle shape was. I thought that maybe it was just another Skyscreamer shape, but after all this Eagle stuff, & markers, it sure look like an Eagle.
This whole thing just seems like last years clues / hints, but than they never did what we thought might happen. Did Cedar Point's "success" change Six Flags minds at the last minute?
So, if the park is still getting a Skyscreamer next year because of Eagle not being done, than where are they going to put it? Are they going to just put in Iron Wolf spot for the time being? Maybe, they will add the bees back to Iron Wolf spot also? I don't want them to take out Orbit, or Condor. Could the new American Eagle potentially go from Iron Wolf spot all the way to Southwest Amphitheater? The problem is that the train, and the Funnel Cake place are in the way though they could always move the train station to another space, and just get rid of the Funnel Cake place. Also, remember when people started seeing markings on trees near the County Fair train station last year or the year before? Plus, they just opened another Funnel Cake place by V2.

Thoughts?
Great, another bare spot in the park....

If they do decide to RMC American Eagle and people don't want it to happen then we can always speak out against it to Six Flags. It happened and worked in the past and that is why we have Whizzer instead of Shockwave.
What if they shut down Eagle blue for all of 2014 while they get it ready for 2015? Last chance backwards blue, remove SW Amphitheater… etc. etc. Dunno just throwing out random stuff.
PfightingPolish wrote:If Screamscape and the pictures of flags are to be believed, it's looking more and more like those of us who like Eagle as it is should be getting our rides in now. Glad Pam & I rode both sides Sunday.
I really don't get this. The challenge of building Eagle was so great, between the size and trying to design a race that was even, that legendary coaster constructor John C. Allen wouldn't even try it. It's the most visible part of the park from I-94. It's iconic. It's like talking about taking the ivy off the walls at Wrigley or the Monster out of Fenway.
The uniqueness comes not just from the size but from the race — the idea that one side and the other side of this massive coaster are supposed to finish at the same time. You could ride Red, your friend could ride Blue and you could see who would finish first. It's a very much a classic, which is what makes it awesome to me, but it's one that was thought out and engineered to have a game in addition to an experience and a thrill, even if the race wasn't always very close. It brought new-school size and thinking to an old-school concept and was the park's first "big" statement. In fact, considering the land area it takes up, it was perhaps the park's largest statement ever. Plus, red, white & blue ... all-American. The American Eagle at Great America, a great American ride with an American theme in a park dedicated to the greatness and traditions of America. It's so right.
As I keep saying — change both sides? Cool. Change only one side? You ruin the experience. You might as well leave the unchanged side to rot and collapse. Who's going to ride a crumbling, rough wooden coaster right next to a modern, speedy marvel? And how "great" is a coaster that you decide is only half worth caring for? One-half new and sparkling, the other half downtrodden. Some way to treat a legend.
It's as if, in the end, we can officially declare the Blue side to be the "winner." That's not how Eagle's supposed to be, though.
Sorry. It's a stupid idea. I'd almost rather they just tear the whole damn thing down and start fresh if they're going to do this. And, well, hey — if we want the pure, red, white & blue old-school ride experience without another coaster right next to it, at least we still have Screaming Eagle in St. Louis.
I couldn't have put it in any better words.

Not exactly - had Shockwave not crapped the bed at the most-convenient time, we would have had it instead of Whizzer... at least a little while longer, maybe.
It's been said that the variance is for 160 feet, I highly doubt they'll increase the height of Eagle from 127 to 160. If Ragin Cajun gets removed, I can pretty much guess that a new coaster may come to the park in IW's spot in 2014, following their latest trend with removals.

My Mistake, I got the two mixed up

I really would not get all worked up about Eagle. Just because something is listed on Screamscape doesn't make it true. For the longest time they had up about SFGAm getting the same type of ride as SFMM got in Green Lantern for 2012. Is that what is sitting in SWFs spot now?
If Eagle was getting RMC for next year it wouldn't be open now, let alone for Fright Fest. The two coasters in Texas that got RMC were brutal before. Eagle is not. Colossus at SFMM doesn't run real great and was also rumored to get this but hasn't. I wouldn't mind if they topper tracked Eagle at some point. The layout would remain the same, it would be easier to maintain, and maybe could run brakeless because of that. I just hope it gets painted again!

160 is just complete rumor though, right? All we really KNOW is that it's something over 125.
Yes that was said at Coaster Enthusiast Day. Hank had said that they looked at doing it but there were no plans at this time for doing so.
Yes because the park president would just say to a private group that yes it is being done to Eagle. Of course he's going to lie and say something else
DejaVu2001 wrote:We should get the height and location of the ride sometime this Friday, as the Gurnee website posts the agendas the Friday before the meeting.
No, usually it will say that SF is requesting a height variance over 125 feet for the addition of a new ride. The meeting on the 21 is where they get into more specifics. Once they are done with the plan commission, they then need to to the the village board 2-6 weeks later and that will have the specifics in the agenda of what was discussed on the 21.

3. Public Hearing: Petition of Six Flags Great America for a height variance to allow a portion of a new roller coaster ride to reach a maximum height of 225 feet. Such structures are permitted by right up to a height of 125 feet. Those portions proposed to exceed 125 feet must follow zoning procedures for a variation including a public hearing, pursuant to the Conditional Use Permit in the effect for the theme park. Structures may not exceed 310 feet in height, i.e. height of the Sky Trek Tower.)

I gotta say, the agendas seem to pretty consistently give the locations and specific heights over 125ft, as well as whether it's a coaster
It would have been for 1998, instead of Camp Cartoon Network. The Zoning meeting occurred on June 25th, 1997, and like Chang, the ride was cancelled by SF before they ever made it to the Village Board.

Are you sure these these are from the "Plan Commission" and not tbe Village Board agenda or minutes?
Those are all agendas from the Zoning Board of Appeals (which has since been merged with the Plan Commission and renamed the Planning & Zoning Board)
If they were Village Board agendas, it would say at the end "as recommended by the Zoning Board of Appeals."
4. Consideration of Ord. 98 - granting a variation to Six Flags Great America to allow four separate sections of a proposed roller coaster to reach heights of 202 feet; 155 feet; 141 feet; and 128 feet respectively, as recommended by the Zoning Board of Appeals.
As I have mentioned before, don't be surprised if there are two announcements on August 29th. I still expect the RMC treatment for Eagle, but due to the time that it takes, it won't be completed til 2015 so that will be 2015's plans announced early, and then something smaller (Skyscreamer, flat ride, etc) for 2014! We will find out more next week at the zoning board meeting, and full details on August 29th!
I love the Eagle and it's a great classic coaster. While I agree, and am not a BIG fan of steel wooden coasters, leaving one side the classic and one side new makes sense. Personally, I will still ride BOTH if this does indeed happen. Nothing can last forever, and at some point, even the most classic rides need to be revamped or replaced! That's just my thought! We shall see what happens!
