Fright Fest 2012

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

They have them at X Gear as well as Carousel Gifts. The ones there have the cool demon on the middle with the graphic in the back (which is cooler in my opinion).

The zombie one with black and neon green is pretty cool as well.

Hissing cockroach contest is under review after first being announced as cancelled due to the man who died after eating roaches and worms for a contest in Florida. I had a feeling SF might go this route.

So there are a lot of the old rides laid out in different places (which is the coolest thing ever!). Are they all over the park? Hopefully you don't have to go through the cheesy haunts to see them...

Most of them are in The Deadline haunt. But they have some sky whirl cabins in the Ride Cemetery and some antique cars flipped up and crashed in Hometown Square.

So what would be in the Deadline haunt as far as old rides go? And would you say it's worth going through to see them?

Was the park open yesterday and today with all the rain? And if it was open, did anybody go?

There's a rocket ride, and some other cool little kids rides. The haunt is fun, but I wouldn't go on the haunt just to see old rides

It's a fun haunt though. They were going for a Zombieland sorta feel...

Does anyone know why the park is open 6-10pm on Thursday, Oct 25th?

aesthyrian wrote:I called to see if they were going to stay open today and they said yes.

That hasn't prevented them from closing the park early this year on several occasions. Lucky, they did stay open until 9pm on Sunday. Heck, more time to plug season passes :) Even the parking gate guy told me the park was open until 11 on Sunday - remember "its hard and confusing" running a big park.

^^Are you asking about the times, or just in general why it's open? If you are just asking in general, it's probably open because they feel they could get a lot of people being that is the last week of the season / Halloween.

About the times, they probably are thinking that people aren't going be able to stay till 11 pm like on a Friday because it's a Thursday, and most likely, a lot of the employees have to go school on Friday. I really don't understand why it can't open at 5 pm like on Friday though.

I really think it's kind of a dumb move on the park. I think they will mostly get all season pass holders because who is going to pay that much money for 4 hours, and than pay for the haunted houses for an additional $20. If they opened earlier (maybe 4:30 pm), they could get a lot more people in there than just for 4 hours. I would have to plan it out, but I might go from 4:30 pm - 10 pm because it's not awful like 4 hours only. Sure, the people that live 5-10 miles away from the park, it's no big deal for them because they are right there anyway, but just expect it to be season pass holders, and not be that crowded. This is unless the park gets smart, and says you can come in for $20 for that day.

just asking in general because i live 45 minutes from the park and am still going.....it would be nice for the park to be open from 5 to 10 not 6 to 10 but hey i guess i dont mind because itll be dark most of the night plus the park will probably only have people from around the area which means little to no lines. Also if it is like the special events they have had in past (first 500 to park get to ride xflight 1st ect) it would be great because noone ever shows up for things like that :D

As it stands right now, I see Thursday October 25th being a failure for the park. There are no additional discounts for that date, and minimal mention of the park being open. The only mentions are the operating calendar and the Fright Fest show guide. I see attendance being very low. Plus, Fright Fest has a higher operating cost because of all the characters and support staff, etc.

^Failure for the park - but good for us to ride rides!

Unless they close at the last minute or do something shady like that. Don't put it past em.

Actually they have a discounted unlimited haunt wristband that will be 9.99 instead of the usual 19.99, and apparently some sort of buy one get one free ticket deal when bought online. I hope it is a failure, it's always nice to have a park to yourself. :)

Actually tickets are quite a bit cheaper that day than the rest of the days left this season.

^ I stand corrected. Still though, I don't think many non season passholders will find $52.99 ($30.99 ticket + $22.00 parking) cheap enough for a 4 hour day.

You're right, and if I were a part of the park's management or with corporate, then perhaps I would look at it from that point of view and be concerned. As I'm not, I'll just think of it as my second visit to the park of the season- a visit that wouldn't be happening were it not for the guaranteed ghost town and night rides that they are kindly making available to me despite the financial loss they'll be incurring.

I think this is their way of "testing the waters". Maybe next year we will see more 6-10 or whatever the hours are. This year they will see if they can indeed be profitable that day by giving discounted tickets and special incentives by going those days. A few of us might even be suprised about the busyness of the day possibly. Of coarse we won't know until the day of, but I know in my case where I said to myself, heck, I'm going to the park today and it will be dead, it wasn't!

Bottom line, don't get your hopes up for a ride-fest! Would it be nice, sure.

The park was crazy busy last night left at 8 couldn't take it anymore. I waited 35 min for a soda refill. I only rode Bull because of my extreme exit pass. Half hr. Wait in the flash pass entrance. If there is a capacity # I think they hit it last night. And yes the Bull line was past Viper que. The pass process center was crazy busy line was to the pictorium. I want to go next Saturday for my last time this season but not if it is going to be anything like that. If I do go I'm going right at open ride the bigs and go home. Don't get me wrong its good for the park to be busy. That was just crazy!

Yesterday was completely INSANE! My friend and I had bought a platinum flash pass....which turned out to be a wise expenditure! However, with the approaching final weekends and the crappy, rainy weather we had the weekend before, it really didn't surprise me there would be that many people....as this is kind of an expectation at this time of year.

The few lines we did wait in people really mentioned that 4-5 rides were about all they had accomplished by the end of the night....again, not really surprising for this time of year. Both my friend and I did the haunted houses early enough because I knew that would also be insanity.

It was great to people-watch nonetheless!
